thinking about buying...
Here he is- I think he's gorgeous... I would like to barrel race with him. He's had 12, 12 hour training sessions, he's 8, QH, barefoot at the moment. Sound. No vices. He seems to be an all around good boy.

Is it because of the way he looks pigeon toed on the front in the first picture? I am pretty sure it was just the way he was standing or the angle of the picture, I would have noticed if his legs looked like that all the time... I only have 2 other pictures of him at the lesson barn, but neither are great for confirmation. I will take more on Sunday. Yesterday was a "unexpected drop in" kind of visit. I like those ones...

I think he looks kind of over on the knee. It shouldn't be too much of an issue but he might have less mobility in his knees then a horse with perfect conformation. I ride a horse who has knees like that and it seems like she stumbles quite a bit.

We went back today, I rode him a little. His saddle and bit were both not adjusted right which really irritates me. Especially because there were people there riding him before I got there. I got on, and he bucked a little. Probably because he was uncomfortable. I got off and adjusted his saddle and bit and he was fine after that.

Bubba- you're right about his legs. His left front is a little inward, and his righ back is the same. I think it's due to bad trimming, he is in need of a good one. I think it could probably be corrected with proper trimming/ shoes.

I'm still very much on the fence about this guy. His registered name is Awesome Magnolia. He has decent blood lines. He also carries the champagne dilution, which I don't know too much about. If anyone feels up to it, feel free to look him up and tell me what you think :)

He's not on AllBreed and I don't have my AQHA password handy. What are they asking for him?

With so many good horses on the market for cheap, I sure wouldn't gamble by buying a crooked-legged one to barrel race on.

SarahAnn 12-04-2011 05:51 PM

Yeah, I know. That's why I am still on the fence. I actually have a perfect barrel racer... He's a QH and is absolutely beautiful and I love him to pieces. I just have been thinking about getting another one... One to race on when Sage retires, and I also really want a Palomino. Plus I have empty nest syndrome since Rain died and I have an empty stall.

They're asking $2500, but the MOST I would pay is 1500. There aren't a lot of great horses in my area. I can wait though, its not like it's a horse that NEED

And Sage has another 5 or so years before retirement.

What do you mean by 12, 12 hour training sessions?

Sounds like a green horse with questionable conformation, and quite overpriced at that. I don't know what the Maine market is like, but you can find comparables for around $500 here in MO.

Black Quarter Horse for Sale
6 year old gelding quarter horse
5 year old appy gelding for sale or trade

Now I'm having way too much fun looking at Craigslist and need to stop....

Hahaha that's how I got into this mess. I was mucking out stalls when I had a teeeeny thought about owning a Palomino QH for barrel racing and started looking around online and found him.

The woman said she had a professional trainer come out a train him for 12, 12 hour sessions. I am assuming she meant that she paid for 12 hours a whack. And he worked with him for 12 hours over a few days. He also spent the summer in a lesson program with her grand daughter. He didn't seem green to me. He's very calm and laid back. A good boy. But when I asked for a canter, I got one.
