immaculate conception of Sonny
The barn where i lease a Percheron cross is owned by an older couple-the gentleman (Jim) is a retired mounted Sheriff-they have had the place for over 40 years. A woman came in to seek boarding for her highly registered Percheron Mare-when she brought the horse in Jim asked how soon the foal would be born? The woman was quite upset at the question = her Mare had never been in contact with a Stallion. 5 weeks later (naturally) Sonny was born. JIm had set up cameras as the mare had had no prenatal care as she couldnt possibly be pregnant. The woman didnt want the foal= he was not a "purebred draft" so he stayed with Jim. Sonny is now 6 and just a doll, i will post pics when i figure out how to do it!!!. Jim and his family will never sell Sonny -he is a staple of the farm and they all abore him. I think they should have named him a biblical name!!!!
I think of this when i think i know everything equine-reminds me i know very little and there is always a surprise in store.

that is such a cool story. :D . I can not believe the lady didn't want the foal. But some people are like that. To post pictures just go to upload picture and click on browse, and then pick a picture and then click send and then click standard. See ... very easy

That is a sad yet happy story. I can't believe that the lady didn't know her mare was pregant, and then doesn't want the foal! I'm glad that Sonny has a loving home.

Lady shows up with a preggers horse. Someone points this out to her, she says, "No Way. Not Possible". But surprise, surprise, out pops a foal. Lady says she doesn't want it and presto we have another unwanted horse because it just isn't "good enough". Thankfully, the foal is taken in and 6 years later is happy and healthy.

Glad Sonny has a home!

the farm owners are so cool! they act like the old hard core farmers and in truth are such loving gentle people. Jim is old school horse guy-80 plus years of horses-he knows a pregnant mare when he sees one- Besides Sonny staying where he was born and being so loved-could have easily gone the other way=i just got a kick out of the womans attitude that she knew everything. Part of my point-we never know everything-there is always someone with some knowledge that is usefull, soon as i say never!!! it is gonna happen.
thank you for the posting pictures info, finally got someone to hold Sonny so i could get pics that arn't up his schnaaz. will post later today.
