Tragedy finally got me...
I've never lost a horse of my own until today. Ferranderro the TB gelding that has been the topic of most of my threads is dead. I had a hard time getting weight on him, getting him to get along with other horses... Then I sent him for 90 days of training, so my husband could ride him. We were supposed to get him back on the 28th. The trainer called at 3pm and said he was rolling and sweating... I said to take him to the vet, of course. We got a call back before we got down there. Vet said the only thing he could do was colic surgery. He said it would cost 8-10k and only 50/50 survival chance, and a lengthy rehabilitation. We gave permission to put him down. He was dead by 4:55 I wasn't even there when they did it. This is hard for me to deal with. I'm angry at myself and the trainer and the vet. I know it is all unjustified, but I felt like someone else was playing my hand, and called to inform me that I lost.

you made a necessary, hard but correct choice to ease his pain. Survival is really iffy and the cost is super high. I would have done exactly the same.
So sorry that you have to deal with such a heavy burden now. So sorry.
Such a hard call, but I would of done the same as well. So sorry for your loss
I'm so sorry for your loss.
The decision might have been hard to make, but it was the right one.
Stay strong, he's in a better place now.
I'm going on the same line...I would have done the same.
God must have had a little girl in heaven who needed a horse....
I'm there with you, my 16th birthday same exact thing happens to me, the mare had been my early present and was put down on my birthday and I wasn't there either. So sorry!
I am so sorry. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. You did what was best for your horse. I know it still hurts like all get out but and I hope that you can be a peace about this soon. Hugs.
Thanks everyone. I knew the odds were bad, it just seemed so out of left field. It sucks more than I could have ever imagined. I'm sorry for everyone else who has been here. I just got his fuzzy reins in the mail about noon.
I am so sorry to hear this, I would have done the same thing in your position.
Big hugs and try to keep your chin up x
It's so horrible to lose one, but you made the right decision.Give yourself some healing time, then take a look at some deserving horses horses needing love & attention.
