Best horse book ever!

I hope I have put this thread in the right place!

I just found and purchased my all time most favourite horse book ever. I had a copy given to me when I was a kid, I absolutely loved it and read it until it fell apart. My original copy of this book disappeared many years ago but I have frequently thought about it ever since. Even going so far as to hunt through my parents book cupboard in the hopes of miraculously finding it.

I finally found it again on Amazon UK! I was so excited, I bought it on the spot, it cost 1 pound.

I have read all the great horse classics, My friend Flicka, Black Beauty, Thunderhead, the black stallion books, the Silver brumby books by Elynne Mitchell and many more, all of which I have enjoyed but this is the book that I always come back to.

The book is called Wild Pony written by Welsh author Lucy Rees. It is a fantastic story about fifteen year old Pippa who has a passionate desire to own her own pony. Pippa has to find a way to buy her own pony and in the end she buys a wild pony off the mountain. I think I love this book because it is so much more than a girl gets a horse story. It is quirky and poignant, set in the early sixties when new ideas and philosophies were emerging and the world was changing. This book makes me laugh and cry and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good read.

Is there anyone else who would like to share their all time favourite horse book? It is always nice to know of other good books to keep an eye out for.

I love the Chicken Soup for the Horse Lover's Soul books. I have them both and I can just reread them over and over and never get tired of them.

I also love the book Chosen by a Horse by Susan Richards. It's a memoir and a very good one at that.

I just read War Horse, and it was very good. I also loved "I am a Great Horse", the story of Alexander the great as told from the perspective of his horse Beucephalous. (did I spell that right?)

I always loved Chosen by a Horse which makes me cry like crazy and Justin Morgan Had a Horse. The Horse Whisperer is my all time favorite book but it's more of a love story than anything. The Red Pony just makes me sad :( Oohh and there was another one about a boy and his old mare Bell I think who escapes in a storm and lands in a cattle guard? Wish i could remember the title. I tried to read War Horse because everyone loves it but I honestly couldn't get into it. Disappointing.

War Horse is my all time favourite. And I devoured how to think like a horse, and what every horse should know, both by Cherry Hill.

There's a book I always liked called Unbroken I think. Not completely a horse book but about a girl whose mom is killed along with their mare and her and the mares unbroke colt move in with her aunt. I love the book Hearts Of Horses all the stories in it. I've read all the classics, and the Heartland, Thoroughbred, and Phantom Stallion series. All good books. Another good not completely about a horse book is Under A Different Sky
