This isn't really a conformation critique, it's more like a confo question. Here goes, I have heard the word topline many times and I get that it is a part of the horses back, but what is it really, and why is it so hugely important??? I've been told that my horses topline could use some strengthening work, what can I go to make him stronger through there??? Thanks

jogging over poles is a good way i find collection is the best way, hills works good too, any thing that has them rounding thier back. collection is definently the best way!! good luck!
To strengthen a top line you actually strengthen the abdominal muscles and stretch the top line. This allows the horse to collect and so forth. What you are really doing is getting the horse to use his "ring of Muscles." See this:
