No Trainer :(
I am in a bit of a pickle, I bought a reined cowhorse but have only done reining with her as there are no cutting trainers within 5 hours of me (luckily there is a great reining trainer just down the road )....I worked cows for the first time this weekend on her...problem is now I'm hooked, Is there anyway I can continue to enjoy this sport with no trainer? Or will I just eventually ruin her?
So you have access to cows but not a trainer? Does your reining trainer know anything about cutting? Maybe he/she can come out to where the cows are.

If you are not experienced at all in cutting, I would think it would be VERY hard to figure it all out on your own. One of the most vital parts of training is having someone else (like a trainer) watch you work in order to see what you need to improve on. Since they have a load of experience, they can pick up even the slightest thing that may be adjusted (like don't dip your shoulder, or put your feet forward more, or tip his nose in more, etc...) I understand how addicting it is...I was hooked first time I worked the flag! However, it is a very expensive hobby, and if you're going to invest the time and money into it, it may be best to make sure you have all the resources available to make it worthwhile :/ It may not be what you want to hear...but maybe you could try out the team sorting or something a little bit to get a cow fix? I don't really know what else to tell ya..I wish you good luck!!!
go to the sorting pen and take your time.see if someone experienced is there to help you.its alot cheaper than cutting and you will have just as much fun.

I agree with rob. Cutting is sooo expensive and i really wish it wasn't, because i would be doing it. Team penning is just as fun as cutting in my opinion, plus there are tons of people to help you. Good Luck.
thank you cgh,i still train and show my cutters, but i like my sorting and penning just as much.the only advantage i have is my customers pay for it
