Please try to critique my big, dirty QH
Not the best pics but here goes, Dusty a 16 year old quarter horse. He is about 16.1-2, very large, very solid. We use him for light trail riding and arena work. He is an excellent beginners/childs horse and most recently my 9 year old brother has been using him for lessons/trail riding.

no idea if hes on level ground or not but in the last picture he looks extremely butt high. but im thinking its from unlevel ground?

Also thought he looked butt high. There isn't much we can say beyond that he looks to have good bone and is overall a nicely built horse. Without being squared up on level ground, it's really a waste of time to try and make judgements on his conf.

Are you certain of his age? And has he been tested for Cushings?

The shark fin wither is enhancing the appearance of a swayback, but I also see a wasted topline that may indicate back pain or a metabolic disorder.

Not totally certain of his age as he was from auction once upon a time ago. The vet however puts him on the younger side of 16-20...he actually was tested for crushings as my vet was concerned about the coat he gets along with his age but his blood test came back ok. It's not really as heavy or as course/curly as the photos make it out to be, he was just all crusty with mud from spending some time outside...

We are pretty sure there is no back pain (the vet gave the ok for riding about a month ago although he doesn't get much work at all, I too have been a bit weary of his topline) but did not have that checked specifically. Have not had him checked for a metabolic disorder either...looks like I'm off to call the vet (I should just start endorsing my paychecks to him) I need a coggins on my new guy anyhow.
