Anyone toured Kentucky Horse Park?
Hello, everyone!

I've always wanted to go to the Kentucky Horse Park to tour both the park and the surrounding horse farms.

It seems like it may be a possibility to go for my birthday in the summer, so I'm just trying to gather up some reviews and opinions to see if it would be worth it to go. After all, it's a long drive from Alabama to Kentucky!

So, has anyone gone? Not during an event like Rolex, just an ordinary visit? Did you enjoy it? Did you take the Horse Farms tour, too?

All opinions welcome!

Never gone. Hoping to sometime soon though. There are so many farms that I want to visit in addition to KY Horse Park though....Ive heard great things about quite a few different experiences!

The KHP does a tour of their own of famous farms in the area. The site says it's a 2-3 hour tour. If I go, I will definitely be doing that!

I'm hoping I can get my BF to take me, even though he's not horsey. If not, I guess I'll either beg my parents or go on my own!

The park is beautiful! We try to get there for the Rolex every couple of years. I've not done any of the farm tours but would definitely like to!

My DH took me there for my birthday this year. We took a short trail ride around the park, wandered everywhere and went on the farm tour.

The place is absolutely gorgeous! They also have a breed show they put on 2x per day where riders come out one by one on different breeds of horses while the announcer explains all about them. Saw my first Knapstrupper (sp?) in real life...he was gorgeous. They all were. You should see both shows as they have different breeds in each.

The farm tour was fun...and oh lord...the money that goes in to those barns! We went to one, the barn itself, 20-30 stalls cost close to a mil and the tour guide told us all the yearlings in the barn were $150k and up. They let you off the little bus and you can wander up and down the barn aisles. It's really cool.

And driving all over Lexington seeing all of the amazing farms was very cool., it's a fun day and the farm tour was totally worth it in my opinion. :)

That's just gorgeous. I really, really hope I can go. The eight hour trip is the only thing standing in my way!

:) we went from NJ, but it did help that my MIL lives in KY about 90 minutes from Lexington. LOL

We stopped by one time on the way back from IN. It was about this time of year. The park was absolutely dead, but they had everything open so we just wandered around. It was very serene. I ended up being video taped by a couple as I was counting to see how many steps it took me to walk the 28ft stride length of Man O'War. It was a really nice time.
ETA: That was actually the first time I ever saw a Gypsy Horse. Lash, from Gypsy Gold was there in the breed pavilion. It has always been my dream to breed, but at the time my breed of choice was Andalusians. I was actually not impressed with Lash at the time (he was still young, so he was light on hair and not well-filled out). I actually made the comment, full of sarcasm by the way, "Yeah, I'll breed Gypsy Vanner horses. There's a market for that."
It's been noted more than once that things I say in the past tend to come true. A few years later, I saw how they turn out and I was sold. Now, I'm doing exactly what I had so sarcastically said I would. lol
