Jumping exercises? Please post any jumping exercises i can do with my horse. |
Start with ground poles! The more the better. You can incorporate ground rails in your circles, figure eights, serpentines, changes across the diagonals..etc. Treat the rails just like any other stride, and go into two point over the ground rails when you and your horse are comfortable. Then, when you're ready, try a small cross rail. Jumping small patterns has helped my jumping more than anything. |
thanks.. but my horse and I know how to jump.. he jumps around 3ft. I just wanted some fun exercises i could do with him not just jumping over a vertical all the time:) |
Oh okay! ;) I bet some other members will have some good gymnastic patterns that could be fun... |
Thanks! I just want to keep my horse active in different exercises. Because all we do is jump one jump in the arena. Thats all we have haha. |
im not sure of any that you can do with just one jump, but one of my favorite exercises is 4 poles on a 20m circle - dont at a canter. you start out with one pole and practice getting a good spot to it and not splitting it [on front leg on each side, they need to take the pole in stride, just like a jump]. once you can good at this then add a second pole opposite the first, and practice getting an even amount of strides on each half of the circle. once you have mastered this, add the other 2 poles so the circle is split into quarters. also i like setting 2 poles in a 5 stride line [12ft strides with 6ft for landing and 6ft for take off] and practice getting 4-5-6-7 strides in the line. you can also do this with jumps |
Okay thanks! That helped! And i do have poles just one jump:) |
you could.. -practice jumping on an angle/circle -put the jump in the middle of the space you are riding and do figure eights(try putting poles at each end and see how consistent you can make your circle/stride) -two poles set for your horses AVERAGE four stride distance, at the canter see if you can lengthen for the three or collect for the five. -make your jump as scary as possible -take away your stirrups/riens/saddle...eyes ;) **only if you can trust your pony!! -halt after your jump to see how straight your line is. |
I'd have a look at getting some more jump materials, tires work great alot of tire shops will give them away for free! As for one jump, -no stirrups -no reins - bareback -in a halter could turn the jump into a spread with poles on the ground play with extending shortening strides any thing else you need more jumps for |
Have you tried gridwork? I'm going to try it tomorrow, looks like so much fun! |
