some people are just IGNORANT
i am at the point where my neighbor's are about to get their houses torched. i see NO other option.
how many times have i asked them to PLEASE not shoot their freaking little guns at their stupid little targets NEXT to the road or RIGHT NEXT to my horse? I am on MY property and/or public property?!
now when gun season is in, i truly respect their actions. they have their hobby as i have mine. but when the seasons out, and i am enjoying my time, ITS MY TIME. i give up trails so as to not get shot and scare your precious little critters away. And when you KNOW that my horses have problems with your gun blasting a target right next to them you should give me that same respect, right?!
have 3 neighbors that have on a consistent basis made it a "fun" thing to shoot their guns right as i am walking by. i make my presence known, give a little wave, and even today provided a little reminder for their thick skulls by pointing at my horse as they stared in my direction. but what do they do? as my mares hindquarters barely make it past their shoulders "BAAAAM!"
i sincerely appreciate your "jokes" as my and my "stupid horse" transition to a bareback canter from a simple walk on the slippery pavement next to MY house. boy was that a blast, and good job missing your target you great white hunter you.
and then maybe 10 mins later, ANOTHER a-hole decides to push the 25 mph speed limit to about 50 as he comes around the curb almost hitting me, my horse, and my dog. GOOD FOR YOU JERK. and let me just say i was on the side of the road. yep, i have a PhD in tire slicing.
BTW THESE PEOPLE ALL HAVE HORSES TOO!
You can't fix stupid. We have a neighbor that drives like the proverbial "bat out of he--." She ignores the posted speed limit (35) and even though our dirt roads are fairly narrow, she will pass anyone who is driving slower than she is...no matter where she is or who may be coming toward her. She's run tons of people off of the road...some more than once.
My daughter and her friend (both adults) were riding down the side of the road the other day, when the witch comes flying toward them. Daughter's friend, who doesn't know this woman, motioned to her to slow down. The witch slid to a stop, rolled down her window and screamed "What do you want!?" Friend says "I just wanted to ask you to slow down around the horses. They are a bit high strung, and we don't want anyone to get hurt." Witch screams "I don't care!!!" floors the car scattering gravel everywhere, and speeds off. Of course, the gravel hits the horses (and my daughter's glasses), and both of them go for a heck of a ride for a minute.
They went riding again a few days later, and the witch actually swerves toward them! She lost control of her car for a moment and went fishtailing toward the ditch. Too bad she didn't hit the ditch...we'd have just left her there.
I really do feel sorry for her DH, he drives too fast too, but he does slow down when there are horses on the road. He came over to apologize both times. This last time, I asked him if he was getting tired of all the apologizing he has to do. He said he was getting very tired of it.
another question for you guys, who do you contact in the city if you are looking to get a horseback riding sign such as this:
i don't really see this as a solution, but more as a reminder.
There really are some jerks living among us.
I know horsey people who have taken to carrying schooling crops when on hacks purely to hit the roofs of cars when they pass by too close! Great idea if your not on a baby who spooks haha.
Actually I can't complain too much about bad drivers round my way because most of the locals do slow down. Its the big city 'im unstoppable in my totally unneccisary, too clean, 4x4' people that bother me. Stupid, stuck up, knowitalls.... mutter mutter mutter :P
ouch some people are a**holes... if it were me i would turn my horse around after they calmed down n run them down... but not sure if that would help. ;p lol
as for sign i think you just go to the municipal building and they will direct you to whom you need to talk to. well thats what my town police told me lol
stay safe :) *hugs
I say torch em! Or (and I know you have to keep the peace) check the county laws to me that qualifys as animal abuse or threatening behavior with a firearm!!!
I think the saying should be "you can't escape stupid!".
We were getting ready to move when our gravel road got paved and customers to the local Harley dealership started taking our pretty winding road instead of the highway. As soon as they'd see me riding they'd rack their pipes sending me in off on a rodeo. Our neighbor had a thing against blackbirds and even SHOT THEM IN OUR PASTURE!!!
Then we moved out into the wilderness to escape stupid and one morning had 7 drunk kids trying to steal our cars to get to their cars 10 miles away. People were always coming up off the river for help, drunk!
Now we moved outta there up to a mountain and the next ridge over APPEARS to be where all the stupid locals go to drink and shoot off thousands of rounds of ammo!! When it gets really crazy I scream like a banshee as if I was hit! Sometimes it works and I can hear their ATV tires squealing through the forest! They have even met us on the roads (which they can't ride on) and thrown gravel at us to prove how BA their rides are...
YOU CAN'T ESCAPE STUPID!!
Torch the place, if you can't escape it, burn it! ;)

I personally like it when someone shoots guns, revs engines, etc next to my horses, bombproofs them. The more noise & activity the better. However I would have a problem with them firing weapons near me as I rode. A stray bullet could kill me, that is ultra uber serious. You might want to talk reasonably to them about this. If they don't listen, wait until they are sleeping and fill a slim glass bottle with gas & stick a rag in it, ignite it and quickly throw it through their front window.
ahahah you guys are so funny. you know next time i am DEFINITELY charging them down, that's a great idea.
yes i do like that too waresbear but with my knowledge of it. i've made my other two older horses pretty easy with firearms. but my youngest just can't seem to shake the noise of them. even if they're a bit far away. it just sends her all into a flutter and she's jumpy for the rest of the ride. its when i THINK they aren't going to shoot and then they do ( not prepared) that it really gets my ticker ticking.
and the people down here sounds like they're practicing with machine guns. as if one unexpected shot was bad enough, try about 20 in a row....
thanks guys for providing comic relief for my ranting ahah
her husband should take her to apolagize to all of you
but maybe not
Well not exactly what you are looking for, I too wanted the district to put up a sign like that for me (would just be for looks, I live on a lonely dead end road, 5 cars all year go by, lol) but you could purchase one...
