Those Annoying People
This is my mini rant about a few things that have been irritating me.
First in November I bought a 4 year old colt, barrel prospect he's big, he's a tank, bred great, mom was a 1D barrel and pole horse, dad also a proven horse. Lady at my barn says he looks more like a roping horse, then a few weeks ago was talking about how some horse couldn't run barrels because he was built like a roper. My colt ran 3.5 seconds off the fastest time at his first show, IBRA show... second I sold my barrel mare or am in the process of selling. To a girl whose 11 that I've helped alot. I lowered her price a bit and am selling on payments because I want her to go to them. My mare is broke to death and easy to ride, but shes not avery dead head she hasis some spunk. Girl gets along fine with her and can ride her perfectly fine. She's ran her a few times now, the mare takes care of her but she's not a baby sitter. The girl is coming off her baby sitter horse who is so so at barrels, to my automatic barrel mare. The first time she ever rode her a guy who comes to shows alot his granddaughter runs, they breed and train horses, buy an sell. Talks to the grandmother of this girl who is the one paying for the horse, asking is she's buying my mare, then telling her he just sold a horse who would have been perfect for the girl, short stocky horse that still needed gelded. At auction for $75, yep sounds kid safe to me. Then the other night the first lady and this man are going on and on about the mans granddaughters horse their selling for $7,500 and how anyone can ride her and she's the perfect kids horse in front of this girls grandmother. His granddaughters horse is automatic I've seen it run with just the reins around its neck. Yes she is a good horse but not very fast, my mare has always outran her with me on her. I am not selling my mare for near that price either. The girl ran exbition on my mare for the first time last week at our practice night and only ran 2 seconds off my usual times in our barn and did just fine on my mare, she can ride well and this mare has alot to teach her. They can grow a long ways together. The grandma thinks its funny and just doesn't comment, she told me if anyone asks what she paid she's telling them 6,000 to see how fast that gets to me lol. I just think its ridiculous and think people should mind their own business, the first one just annoyed me because the lady knows I bought this colt in hopes he will be better than the mare whose a 2D/3D horse. I'm just a bit fed up with people anymore.

gotta love it. like people telling me my grade colt will never make it in a show ring cuz "for the love of god you dont even know who the sire is and the dam was a pos mare" well 1. hes a BEAUTIFUL horse 2. my $200 ******* colt just beat ur $40,000 registered QH in every class we were in together.
or how my fat $2000 ranch mare is never gonna be better than your $40,000 dollar horse but again i beat you and got offered $15000 dollars for her by your very own mother....hmmmm
im sensing a little envy or maybe your just afraid ill keep beating you?
just brush it off the only reason theyre trying this is cuz theyre afraid of you and your horses beating them!
I know the feeling :/ People get to me sometimes too. I bought my first horse with high hopes that I would be able to get him on a trailer and take him places. I did, at the time, know he was green, but the owners told me he would walk right on the trailer. They didn't live far so I just walked him down the road and right into the barn. A few weeks later after he had settled in, I wanted to see how well he behaved in the trailer. Do you think I could get him in it? No, of course not! It took me four hours to get him in once!
People are silly.
I know tons of barrel horses that are dang good rope horses as well, and vice-versa.
I will be barrel racing on a horse that was practically given to us on a trade for some baler parts. I hope to start patterning her in Spring.
I started a horse we got for free team roping last Spring.
We have one other free horse, and she's a jem too.
I think that my "piece of crap" not-registered, who-know's-what-breed mutts are the best horses we have.
I practically started my mare heading years ago, and now that she's 10, I wouldn't let her go for anything less than $12,000. And the vet said she was never going to make a horse. She is one of the best heading horses in my area. And if I had time, she's be up there on the barrel racer list too.
Envy would be the last word to use. The man and his son are selling their only good horse, the only one his granddaughter can ride. They have 30 day wonders, horses that do good for the first month then blow up. Why? Because like last week he had a horse out here 8 rides, already cantering the pattern. Has a 2 year old their already trying to run hard. Kinda feel sorry for the girl really she's a few years younger than me.
Yes the thing about my colt wears me down a bit, I posted him for a critique on another forum and basically got asked why I chose him as a barrel prospect and told he was to heavy to be fast. But hey a well known trainer said he should be able to fly, and my farrier loves his conformation. Its a toss up, he's the colt I spent alot of money on and picked out. So yes it makes me worry and doubt sometimes.

worry then? if they have to sell theyre only good horse for their 30 day wonders maybe their worried that with a quality horse the girl will beat them to much or idk maybe theyre just selfish
They wont sell their mare, they never have before. They know she's not fast enough though so maybe they will this time, but not for that price.
They are all very selfish people, and will pretty good much bad mouth anyone but be friendly to your face.

thats just the way of it. my old trainer was like a surrogate mother to me. found out she got mad that i was beating her daughter in barrels and was spreading rumors about me. when i confronted her she told me that she never should of trained me or helped me with my mare and i didnt deserve her....this was after three years of treating me as a daughter, taking me to rodeos, employing me to help with her clinics.
some people do their best to be everybodys bff and stab them behind the back when it benefits them.
Everyone gets jealous, but it's about having enough self control and respect for others that you keep it in check.. and a good heart to keep supporting those around you and those you care for, regardless of their successes.
You know you have a diamond in your pasture :) The other folks try to trick you into thinking it's a shiny piece of tin can. They try to make themselves seem superior and everyone else inferior. Those are the kinds of people to stay away from.
And those are the kind of people that you should face with a big ol' smile with plenty of teeth and continue being fabulous!
exactly...this is a little of topic but when i went home this christmas while i was at the arena there was a girl riding there and she came up to me and told me that she had a great deal of respect for me.
apparently when she was younger i had gone up to her at her first show and just sat there and talked to her. she said that she was so suprised that the girl who was always beating everybody would come talk her (im 5 yrs older) and that it had helped her calm down and relax for her classes, when everybody else avoided her. she had just gotten this really fancy show horse and everybody pretty much hated her for it but the older girl with the cattle horse(me and josie) that beat everybody came and talked to her... made my day! and to think she still remembers that from 6 years ago
