No, all Appys don't go blind. She's not to short to jump either. There is a champion that rides a 14.1hh qh! hes amazing! good luck!
there are TONS of appy lovers on this forum, but I will say what I always say about horses of color (at risk of being flamed) 8)
God offered them spots or brains
And Appy exclusive:
Red Cloud always rode an appy to battle so that he would be good and mad when he got there
Appaloosas are amazing. They are a hardy breed that almost went extinct but thanks to a few people that really cared about the breed they came back to be one of the most well known and well liked breeds ever in the world. My mom has always liked Appys and when she first came up to Northern Mi the place where she rode at had only Appys and that is where she got Seven, her first and fav Appaloosa. Just like any breed, it has its flaws and people that dont like them, but thats ok. It only matters on the people that want to perserve the breed for what it is.
Just like every breed of horse certain type of horses/breeds are more susceptible to certain illnesses and diseases than others. Just keep an eye out on changes with your darling.
Most the time it's common in Appaloosas to get what is
called "moon blindness."
I like Appaloosas, but the glassy eyed ones kinda freak me out!!
But yes, they are great horses and my new horse is half App!
I grew up in a "racist or breedist" home. ONLY Quarter Horses was what I grew up on. My Mom loathed any other breed and now I have a Paint and an Appy and would like to try owning a gaited breed. LOL
My appy is 24 and his eyes are just fine. He's a bit sway backed and skinny.
Things I find in Appys to be consistent. The ones with vision problems that I'm aware of so far are the light colored ones. I'm sure they aren't the only ones that get moondblindness, but seems the white ones do the most. They seem to look a little rougher as they get older, (the don't seem to age gracefully) by that I mean they seem to be prone to swayback, and they are stubborn and tough. That being said, I LIKE that about our Appy. e call him "General Rocky" thanks partly to his attitude, but also his roached mane, cause if it isn't roached, it only gets about 4 in long and stands straight up. LOL
Each breed has it's good and bad. You just pick one that you can live with the bad (it's kind of like picking a husband, LOL) . http://www.horseforum.com/userpix/20..._rocky_c_1.jpg
Yea im happy that my little girl will be able to jump. Im so excited to teach her!
She doesnt seem to have anything wrong with her eyes.
Im not sure if she is considered light or dark. lol
