Can't find a farrier
This is a general rant and no reply is necessary but I am feeling frustrated so I thought I'd come in here to blow off steam. Don't mind me...
I can't find a farrier. I've been looking for almost two years. I work full time and some of the people I work with are horsy people and they are having the same trouble. I have been doing my own trimming and I think I could set a shoe if I had to, but I'm not exactly young anymore and I would rather pay for someone in better condition, better qualified, with the right tools to do this for me.
However, I can't get anyone to come to our farm. I would even trailer a couple twenty or thirty miles to a good and reputable farrier. I just can't find one. I thought I'd scored a major coup when I had a guy show up last fall and do very good work. But, he missed his next appointment and never returned any of my calls. I would even pay extra for the right farrier, my place or yours, just because these people work their tails off to get trained and do a pretty rough job. I just can't find one within reasonable distance.
So, there's my rant: I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. Thank you for your attention...
sometimes its good to let off steam
hope you are able to find a farrier
Hey, i hope you dont give up. My first thought was to look at your location. You're in Kentucky! THe horse capital. I'm sure you've looked everywhere btu where do you buy feed? or tack? I can almost garuntee they can point you in the direction of someone. Good luck.
If I didn't see you were from KY, I would've swore you lived in my area. I acquired my farrier about 25 years ago & he's excellent, always does a good job & kept a navicular horse of mine sound. But, others are not so lucky around here, since my farrier is not taking any new clients, good luck finding a farrier. He will refer you to someone, but usually anyone new doesn't last, or gets hurt. Around here I am envied as I have the "superstar" farrier. So you see, you are not alone, remember once you find a good farrier, stick with him/her & don't tick them off.
