Breeding, color questions! 1 Attachment(s) Hi y'all, I have a question that'll probably sound dumb but I don't know a lot about breeding/colors. I have a solid chestnut filly that SOMEDAY I would like to breed. I was wondering what color stallion I could breed her to, to get a solid Buckskin foal? The picture is of her, her dam (Chestnut/White), and her Sire (Palomino with white knee high stockings on all 4 legs). I do not plan on breeding her for a very long time and when I do, I am keeping the foal as my own! So please no negative comments!! I am just curious as to what color stallion and my filly could make a solid buckskin foal. |
If you can find a nice Perlino sire who is homozygous for the agouti gene you chances of buckskin become 66% and palomino 33%, if he's homozygous black EE and homozygous Agouti AA then it's 100% Buckskin. |
Thank you! I was curious because I absolutely LOVE buckskins! |
I do too! |
What about finding a buckskin with a high buckskin rate? For a solid, you could try a quarter horse? I do love buckskins too! :) |
there is no way to determine what color pattern and how expressed it would be on a foal before it is born. If you are looking for a specific color and/or pattern, you need to buy, not breed. (the "you" is at anyone thinking of breeding) |
Are the filly's dam and sire kept together like that? |
^^^^^^ I was wondering this too! |
