Okay I need to know rougthly how tall a horse is... I am 5'6 and im slightly shorter than the horses withers... rougthly how tall would the horse be... Sorry I no it's prob not the easiet question... Thanks =)
If you are just short of the withers, the horse is probably17hh or 17.1hh which is fairly large horse.
I figured that out with this method:
Each hand is 4 inches.
5' is 60 inches. Since you are 5' 6" that means you are 66inches tall.
66 inches divided by 4, which is how large one hand is, is 16.5, but since each hand is only four inches, and we got 16.5 that means, you have to go up to the next hand, meaning, you are, roughly 17hh yourself. If you are just short of your horse, then your horse is probably about 17hh or 17.1hh.
Thanks... I will remeber that for next time =)
Yep, a hand = 4inches. ;)
That's what they're measured in. You can use a measuring stick or tape, either one works fine. You measure it from the withers, down.
I would say arounf 16 hands :)
Assuming the horse is 5'7 in people size, which makes him according to the chart above 16'3hh :)
Yeah thats what I ws thinking too
Thanks guys I will remember it... I dont have a measuring stick or tape because its not my horse =( but I jus wanted to no how tall she was... Thank you x
Yup, you've got to remember that the numbers after the point are not decimals, but inches, in hands measurements. It's probably a long time since any of us did division with remainders in school!
I'm five foot eight, which makes me seventeen hands high. If I can see directly over the withers, the horse is 16hh. If my chin is level with the withers, it's 15hh. My head from top to chin is 2 hands xD
