New To HF. My Horses *Lots of Pics*
Hi, my name is Lindsay and I am from Wisconsin. I live on a dairy farm and I have 3 horses. This is my 7 month old, chocolate, Rocky Mountain Colt, Desperado. I call him Dez for short. He is just like a puppy and always has to be next to me. He is such a sweetheart and I love him to death! He is already a gaiting machine and loves to gait on his own in the pasture.
Welcome to the forum
Your Dez is so cute
What other horses do you have
This is my bay, 13 year old 3/4 Arabian, 1/4 paint mare, Sweetpea. I have had her since she was 5 months old and I broke her myself. The picture where I am on her bareback was only the 3rd time I had ever sat on her and the first time I had been on her bareback and she was an angel. The only reason her ears are back is because she does not like the pigs. The one from on top of her is also the same day and her first bareback ride. She acted like she had been ridden for years before that and I was riding her with no bit either :) She is my baby girl.
very nice pictures of your horses I love the snow pictures
I used to ride bareback too
Lovely horses :)
This is Molly, my 26 year old, solid black appaloosa, although she acts like she is 8. I actually just sold her last weekend to a 16 year old girl and I will deliver her this coming weekend. I will really miss her but I am glad she is going to someone who will use her. She is a horse that does not like to just be a pasture pet. She likes to be busy and have something to do. I unfortunately can't really ride her more than 5-10 minutes anymore because I have had 3 surgeries on my hip in the last 4 years and riding regular horses hurt it quite a bit. That is why I got a Rocky Mountain colt because he is gaited and I can ride gaited horses all day. I have had her for 6 years and she had a lot of vices when I got her. I have spent MANY hours making her into the calm, trustworthy, and amazing horse she is today. She also taught me many things and made me into the skilled and confident rider I am today since she was a handful when I first got her.
***Please don't comment on any of the riding pics. I know what's wrong. They were all my first rides after one of my surgeries so I was too nervous about re-injuring my hip to worry about proper technique***
The snow pictures are actually from tonight. It is the first real snow we have had this winter, which for us is weird. Of course, my crazy horses love to stand out in it instead of inside. lol, I guess that is why they have such thick winter coats!
lovely pictures and stories. YOur chocolate baby is adorable. There are two chocolate RMH's at our barn. They are half brothers.
So I lied... One more pic post
This is Cherry. I had to have her put down about 3 years ago and she was 39. She was a paint mare and acted like she was 10 up until 2 months before I had to have her put down. She was so calm and I used to bring her out of the pasture and lay back on her with my head on her rump and nap while she grazed with no tack what-so-ever on. Not even a halter. She wouldn't even hurt a fly. She was the type of horse you could leave little kids with and never worry about them. She was the first big horse I had after my shetland pony and was the kid of horse I wish everyone could begin on.
oppps. I just realized I accidentally put a pic of Sweetpea in with Molly's post.
tinyliny: thank you. The chocolates are my favorite color :)
Skyseternalangel: Thank you
Country Woman: Thank you. Bareback riding is my favorite. It is so comfortable and relaxing. I especially love riding in just a halter with lead ropes hooked to the sides and bareback around our farm at dusk looking for deer. I have been able to get within 20 feet of deer by laying flat on my horses back because the deer are so used to my horses since they go to drink from the spring in their pasture.
