Halters

Just tell me which kind of halter you prefer rope or a nylon halter. you can also tell me why if you have a reason for preferring one over the other

I prefer rope halters because I find the horse understands me better.. we communicate better. It's like a little poke or tickle than a flat handed push. But I also use leather halter for trailer-ing and sometimes to get him from point A to point B.

When I'm working on ground manners I like a rope halter, I find that there's better communication. Of course, I could be completely whacked out and it's all in my head but it's worked with the horses I've owned and worked with.

I love leather halters for everything else. I find them both attractive and safer.

Rope halter with knots. And a rope lead-rope tied on, with no buckles or snaps or anything that can snap or break or hang heavy on the horse. :-)

I use a nylon halter if I'm just leading my horse to the cross-ties and clipping her there while I brush/tack up. But I have a rope halter for playing around in, trick teaching, hopping on bareback for a bit, only because she responds a little better in it. :)

For me a halter is a halter, unless showing & then always leather. They go on to get from point a to point b or to do ground work. If my horse won't respond because of a halter, I've got bigger problems to worry about. I have & use both, I use whatever I grab first.

I like my rope halters for when I am trail riding because I think it looks better with my tack and I like the look  But for just letting her out in the yard to graze, I prefer my old raggy nylon halters because they don't seem to get snagged as easily.

Knotted rope halter for groundwork and riding, nylon for quick leading to paddock or tying during trimming. I wouldn't tie or turn out a horse in a rope halter, though, because they don't break that easily in case of emergency.

I use rope on trail, a soft rope halter; some are stiff. Picketing and trailering I use nylon halters. I have an issue with standard(medium, large, extra large etc.)sized halters. Either they are too loose around the jowl or they are too short through the cheek piece. I am seriously looking for custom halters for my horses. To me it is worth the money. Cob halters were the only ones that fit well, when I had my Arabs which I only have one now.

I mainly use leather but occasionally a rope one for some training but not often. I don't care for nylon, it can leave rubs, won't break when needed & I am boring. Nylon does look very nice on horses though, if it is clean & well fitted.
