making things the right way
alrighty folks would like some input on how to make a decent cross country/hunter pacer course on my parents property... we have 21 acres and it can go anywhere :) and these are the new discplines i would like to try this year or next with more training... hence why i would like a mini version :)
how many jumps should i have?
how much space between jumps?
what type of jumps should be made (solid or not)?
certain footing around jumps?
average height for jumps?
any basic things from an actual event that i should consider to get the full aspect of the event.
thanks so much :) cant wait for my new building project to begin
All I can say is have fun
try looking online for ideas
i am lol i figured maybe ppl here might have some tips :)
Spacing kind of depends, but I'd recommend going to a cross country course near you and checking it out. It's not going to be like a stadium course, you know?
Cross country jumps are solid. Logs are great for jumps! It'd also be good to make coops, roll-tops, etc. (here's a website to check out: Cross Country Horse Jumps and Fences ? Eventing ? Jumping)
You need to make sure that the footing is good: no gopher holes, etc. that the horse could possibly get hurt on. If there's anything that could go wrong, assume it will go wrong. They're horses after all(;
The height all depends on your riding level. Beginner novice jumps are about 2'7 - 2'9. But if you aren't jumping that high, don't make jumps that high! There's also elementary, which is common at unrecognized events(: Make the jumps where you are safe and comfortable :D
I'd recommend getting little numbers and numbering your course; you wouldn't think they'd notice, but I've seen horses spook at numbers before. Do all different combinations of colors. (different levels are characterized by numbers: for example, at some events beginner novice will be black on yellow, or white on blue, or vice-versa.)
:D Flowers, scarecrows, etc. might also be something to think about.
And we'll be expecting pics!!!!!!!!
thank you for the tip i will look into that :) and of course pics will be a must when i get it completed :)
