please critique my riding :D please please please!
hey, well my sister used to critique my riding and everything... but she moved to cambodia soooooo she cant really do that anymore.
Anyway here are my photos
critique away :D
oh and these were taken ages ago and im positive that ive improved i might upload some later :D
Hey, its always good to ask for critique to improve yourself. The one major flaw that is sticking out if your leeg is way too far back. You are putting yourself in danger of falling into the fetal position if your horse were to spook, and ultimately its easier to fall in this position. Imagine holding a yard stick at your shoulder. Your shoulder, hip and leg should all be perfectly aligned.
It almost appears that you are bracing yourself with your knees. Try some excercises to open your hips and knees. You can do this at walk, just take a deep breath and widen your knees and press into your heels. The part you want "hugging" your horse is your calves. Your hands look great and your posture is good, just keep working at it, but bring the bottom of your leg forward.
yeeaaaahhh. i see what you mean... thanks soo much will definately try that.
yup someone else mentioned my legs being to far back and gripping with my knees and so i have been working really hard on them. Ill try to get some photos and upload them later
By the way, the last picture is closest to the best position, but you'd need to roll your shoudlers back to be in the perfect alignment.
yup i can see that too. one of my biggest problems in horse riding is over trying... like a while ago my legs were way too far forward and so when someone said to put my leg a little back so i was in alignment i tried to hard and developped the habit of putting it too far back.. it took me for ever to get my hands right because of that. I would hold them too low and then way too high when i was corrected... so i guess it just takes me twice as long to learn haha :D
If you just release that knee and let your leg hang, you'd have a perfect leg position! As for your shoulders.. you look like you're trying to touch your ears with them! Relax.. down and back. Open up that chest area and relax down into your seat.
Looking great though!
And I just want to point out with your horse, try not to be toooooo curled up. Pretty horse by the way!
You pinch with your knee! Make sure you're stretching your heel down and your security comes from your seat. You also have too much foot in the stirrup. Make sure your thumbs are up and not out, as well. And roll your shoulders back. Relax your position a little as well – you're looking quite stiff in some of the pictures. And make sure you're always looking up and ahead!
Other than that, brilliant riding! (: Good job!
The first picture is also one of good postion. YOu elbow and hand position are really lovely and to me, I see the leg back a TINY bit too much but I think it looks like you are squeezing the horse a bit too much. I get the feeling that in some spots he's sucking back in resentment against the squeeze of your leg, you then reach back and try the harder to get him in front of your leg and end up really riding his face a bit too much.
relax a bit more in the leg, and use a fluttering ankle to "plump" him like plumping pillows instead of a squeeze and get him forward enough that he isn't tempted to suck back behind the vertical.
