Josie(AQHA buckskin mare)-foaling thread! - He has arrived!
Hello everyone! I just started searching for horse forums today! I was looking to share in everyone's (including myself) foaling journey!
I have a cute buckskin AQHA mare by The Flashy KingXBoogies Flashy JacXHollywoodjac86 out of a daughter of Little Tequilla LenaXSmart Little Lena
She is in foal to a son of a AAA race horse who has proven offspring and out of a superior AQHA barrel racing mare for an April 1st foal!!! She is currently 275 days and is not showing much.
We here in Texas are going through a bit of a hay shortage with the drought, so she is not getting free choice hay. She receives 2 flakes of alfalfa and 1 1/2 scoops of grain twice a day with weight gain and mare and foal supplements. She was just started on the supplements going into her third trimester!
She is a cute little mare. I completely trained her myself. She has about 90 rides on her in almost two years, which have been very erratic(sp?). She and I competed in an Extreme Cowboy Challenge last summer and actually came in 1st overall in novice horse, winning a buckle, and 2nd overall in novice rider, making her earning close to $150 in winnings! I am extremely proud of this mare. She is by far the best minded horse I've ever ridden and incredibly smart.
Here are some pics taken today, let me know what you think!
And a few pics taken at different points in her life, just for fun!!!
She is a great little mare and is a blast to ride! I still ride her as she shows no discomfort and I have no place to lunge her (my roundpen is either extremely hard or too wet and sloppy!).
I'm really wanting to place a cam in her stall. Does anyone know what to buy and which program to stream through? This is my first foal since I was 16, lol.
On Josie's foal heat, if she is checked out and ok by the vet, she will be bred to AQHA reiner RC Fancy Step, then I probably won't breed her for a few years and get to riding her. She is the mare my children will ride (if I ever have any, 21 is wayyyy too young, lol) and will stay with me forever!
No she really doesn't look pregnant. She was preg tested? Anyways, she is a skookum looking little mare.
She is beautiful! Buckskin is my dream color!
I had her palpated in November because she didn't look bred at all and she was bred then. I plan on having her checked once more in February, just in case, but I had a mare who was in training for 5 months when bred and a couple months before foaling, looked like this:
They are of a similar build, Risky, the paint mare, carried her foal very high in the rib cage and looked like she had a hay belly, if that, the day she had a big, strapping foal. I think Josie is carrying the same way.
shes a bute! cant wait to see pics...and yeah she definitely doesnt look preggo haha
Y'all have me a bit worried now, I think I'll take her with me and get her palpated tomorrow when I take my weimaraner puppies to get their tails docked and dew claws removed. Here's a pick of them for giggles!!!
Here is another shot of her, from a different angle. What do you think of it? It was taken today as well.
uuum looks more like it now...see how shes heavier towards her hindquarters? that makes me think taht yeah shes probably preggo....haha just realized she reminds me alot of my mare Josie (tehe) they have the same head and small build
Ya, when she isn't bred and getting fet only 2 flakes of hay a day, she tends to look drawn up in her flanks and isn't filled out. I hate it, so generally always feed her free choice hay, but can't afford to now! That is one of the main reasons I think she is still bred, she never has that empty look in the morning before feeding time! I'm still going to go ahead and take her to get her checked out tomorrow if the vet can fit me in, just to be sure!
Subbing. She is super cute :)
