Halflingers....any thoughts?

Love my halflinger cross but sometimes I feel like 14.3 is too small? How do you guys with halflingers get over that feeling? They aren't really considered ponies are they?

They're considered horses. The halfie I rode was quite wide in her barrel so she took up my leg really well. Very big movements at the walk and trot. Didn't canter her but it looked very small and deep when she was being lunged. I loved riding her though.

The halfie I rode felt like any other horse, except I could mount this one from the ground!

I call them the basset hounds of the horse world, full size body, shorter legs!

I always thought they were considered draft ponies? Guess I was wrong.

They're one of the few shorter breeds considered to be a horse. Technically a "small Italian draft" horse.

I'm curious, what do you guys do with your Halfies? I rode mine English pleasure with a little bit of western. Took her on trails and had kids on her in the program. She was very versatile.

I didn't own the one I rode, a friend did and still owns and breeds them. She drives them , shows them in hand and rides mostly western and on the trails. Hers are well behaved, though I've heard that they can be a bit head strong, but haven't experienced that in my limited exposure to them.

Thank you for explaining their classification Sky. I've always been a bit confused with that.

Yeah no problem :) They used to be my favourite breed of horse for the longest time haha

The one I rode was very head strong. She had to be ridden in a special kind of bit (cannot remember which one it was.)
But once you got her to slow down and think, she was awesome. A real lawn mower though :P
