natural vs synthetic brushes
I'm looking to buy some new brushes and I'm into being all natural so i was wondering what your thoughts are.right now i have synthetic brushes. If you use either why do you like them and which do you think is better?if you could say what brand you use that would be great too.
I bought some natural ones once and all the bristles fell out very easily...I wasnt impressed. Now I pretty use only Oster brushes which I really like :)
I had the same problem. Unless you want to spend 150 dollars on brushes, synthetic is the way to go. There are low and high quality all natural brushes. Unless you want to buy the high quality ones, I would just stick to the fake ones.
Agreed, a lot of money for a natural brush, or a little bit of money for something that also works well.
I’m never going back to synthetics again. I absolutely love my natural brushes! First of all my horse is outside the most of the day and normally without rugs, so when it’s raining he need to have most of the natural grease that’s in the coat, and by my experience the natural brushes leaves more of that grease than the synthetic ones. And when I use the synthetic brushes I get static shocks from my horse when I touch him, and neither of us likes that..
(Excuse my English, hope you understand me anyway)
I have a stubben hog hair body brush, its amazing!
Absolutely love it.
I do also have synthetic brushes for face and legs, and they work just as well, but my Stubben has lasted me 4 years of every day use. Wouldn't swap it for the world ;D

spend a little time and support these guys , and a few others, instead of sending your money to China with the Oster brand.
I use both to be quite honest, and I'm very pleased with my grooming regime.
Small Brandless Curry Comb
(like this: Amazon.com: Flexible Rubber Curry Comb: Sports &...)
I find that it works on all skin types and releases dirt and dead hair better from the coat than other types of curry combs... except it's not as good with winter coats.
Straw Dandy Brush
Again, brandless, it's just a pinestraw stiff brush... much like this: Equine Editions Dandy Horse Brush with Molded Plastic Handle - Horse Brushes | Gardening Supplies, Gardening Tips, Gardening Ideas
Synthetic Oster Soft Bristle
Go over and sweep all the left over dust and dirt off.
Horse Hair Oster Soft Brush
I go over with this after everything, and it gives a gloss like you wouldn't imagine. It has been, I've found, unattainable to get any other way.
Rag it off!
Then I'll usually spray on my WOW! Whitener stuff and wipe the entire horse down. Your horse will be super soft and super shiny. I even do this with horses I don't use the Wow!Whitener on, and it just gets more dirt and yuckies off.
