to roach or not to roach
my horse has really bad dandruff in his mane. its not bad in his coat or tail but hus mane is horrible. i recently started using mtg to help his hair grow and help his dandruff but it made his dandruff worse. it looked like he had gotten sunburned and was peeling. i also tried using a very concentrated conditioner a friend lent me. it worked wonders for her horse with just one use and did absolutley nothing with mine. so im thinking i might roach his mane so i can properly treat his dandruff and make his hair healthier. what do you think?
this might sound obvious, but have you tried dandruff shampoo?
sounds like the mtg may have acted as sun-tan oil when he was out... I would try dandruff shampoo (give it a week or so to work, apply every day) You can also treat the mane with a cholesterol treatment (Wal-Mart or Sally Beauty Supply)
MTG Baby! MTG...
I only like roached manes on horses w/ really thick necks...
ROACH IT! :D ( I have to inform you that I'm a roach-a-holic) I just can't get my hubby to agree to it!
Actually I'd try the dandruff shampoo and go from there.
I think roaching looks great too. I had to look it up to see what it was  I think Vida would look great that way, she has such a pretty neck but she also has a beautiful thick long mane too :? I settled with just doing her bridle path.
I'm really surprised the MTG didnt work.
It depends on the horse. I think roaching a horse with a smaller frame and a tiny neck is going to look terrible. Not sure what your horse is like but it could be cute.
Keep in mind tho, that roaching won't fix the problem you're having with dandruff. It's going to be easier to remove the particles and the dead tissue but it's still going to be there regardless.
i wouldnt roach it.... just keep washing it but make sure to get all of the soap out so that you dont iritate it any more.
Yes, I don't see how roaching would help the dandruff. I'd try a dandruff shampoo.
I forgot to add, yes, mtg will cause sunburn. So if your horse has a fine haircoat or mane, you have to use it with caution if they are going to be outside all day.
