Horse keeps cutting her pastern
I have a 3 year old who has cut her pastern 3 times now. We have replaced the water trough because we thought she was pawing in it but she came up with another cut. I want to stop this she has also pulled a shoe the only thing we can come up with is that she is hanging it in the fence. I have considered putting boots on her.
What kind of fencing do you have & what is on the other side that she may want? Though they always want what's on the other side.
We have goats on the other side of the fence and the fence is page wire.
Sounds like she's messing with the fence. If you can't replace the fence, add a hot wire on her side to keep her away from it. Getting a shoe stuck in the fence can cause alot of problems.
Put electric fencing so she can't get caught up on the wire.
Yes, potentially very dangerous fencing for horses, especially if shod. I wouldn't be shoeing an immature horse anyway, but agree with others that an elec fence would probably be the cheapest & easiest solution. Otherwise is it possible she's overreaching & cutting herself with her back toes? Are they shod too?
