Foaling Camera Questions
I asked this question when I first came here and no one responded, then I forgot about it until today, when it popped back into my head for no reason, lol.
I am interested in getting a foaling camera for my mare, so I can watch her from inside the house and not tromp out to the barn every 15 minutes when she is getting close.
I have no idea where you would go to get such a camera, how you would set it up, what type you would get(I want one that can see in daylight and at night with no light as I don't have lights in my barn and also waterproof), and what software you need to have it running off your pc.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has some experience in this, maybe we can take turns watching the rascal so I can get some shut eye without missing her birth, haha.
Wow, I just noticed every paragraph started with "I", lol. Sorry about that!
Try marestare.com - they offer lots of stuff for this sort of thing.
I actually emailed someone from either marestare or foalcam and they didn't answer me, so I got a little discouraged, lol.
I can't seem to find any cams for sale, or information on what I would need, lol.
I had the same problem with MARESTARE, e-mailed no answer and called, no response, so I went to Radio Shack today and bought a home security system that we're in process of hooking up, only it's going to go to the TV in the living room and I'll put an air mattress there and watch from inside. I had another wireless camera that did the daylight/infra red night vision thing and in the daylight if the light was too bright, you couldn't see anything and at night, because of the metal building and because my house was over 50 ft from the barn the pic was pretty poor. The one I just bought says it's good for 165 ft and I've installed lights (not much light, just halogen stick ups) in the mares stalls to boost the clarity of the pic.
Sorry I can't be any help with the PC info, I was counting on Mare Stare and waited til the last minute to buy my cameras & receiver. Now I'm going to be lucky to get it in before they drop.
That's why I tried to start early. I found their customer service to be lacking a bit. When someone calls or emails me, I like to respond as quickly as possible and pretty much expect the same, especially on a professional level. I found a website that sells cams, it is Buy a BarnCam®- Watch your barn, foal, horse, other animals, or almost anything with our cameras 1-888-BARNCAM , but the prices are higher than I want to pay. I think I'll try RadioShack as well, they'll probably be pretty helpful. I never would have thought of it if you hadn't posted, thank you, lol!

We have the shwann security system in our barn. I was hoping i would be able to get a live feed link for JUST the mare cam and do live feed for friends etc but its just not possible. However. It is exactly what i needed to watch my mare. I can watch from my mobile phone or computer. anything with internet....
I have the costco pack with four cameras. Here is a screenshot of my four cams in our barn. One is in the mare stall, one in the drive, one in our front isleway and one in the arena.
Hmm, looks like two of the cams don't work well at night, still, it will work if it is a cheaper option. I was looking at a couple hundred, not 5 for a cam, lol!
Let me look up what system I have. I have a wireless system my mom purchased off of Amazon.com I have to camras up and it will hold up to 4. Very easy to install. Just three screws into a sturdy board and they are up. They can run off a battery system or plug into an outlet. Mine does occasionally loose signal during a storm, but for the distance it runs wirelessly and through all the trees I give them props.
They see perfect at night and during the day, and are waterproof.
Mine also have sound on it, when it is a good nigh, and if it is pretty clear you will get good sound. Though most of the time I have my TV on mute. Gets annoying after a while. You hook it up directly to your tv, and tada. Problem solved. No mare will get past you.
This is what I got.-
How far away from the barn will it operate? I didn't see where it said how far ya could go, lol. Otherwise, it looks great!
