How to know when your being scammed...?
I have a Harley Davidson Motorcycle listed on craigslist.
I got an email today some someone about it saying this...
Just wondering if you still have the motorcycle for sale, i'm a serious buyer.
I replied back that yes it is still available and if they were interested in coming out to take a look at it.
I just got this reply...
Thanks for the quick response, i'm in the navy currently stationed in Baltimore, i'll take it for the asking price including PayPal surcharges since i am interested in the immediate purchase, i will be making use of my Shipper to have the it picked up from you and have it delivered to me. Further arrangements will be made with you in regards to the pick up once i have paid you.
I would appreciate if you can get back to me with more actual pics (if available) since i won't be able to see this in person, Kindly reply with your PayPal email to send funds to if you accept my offer, if not, it's ok, i'll understand. I hope to read from you soon.
I don't know how to tell if this is a scam or not. It seems too good to be true, and I've always been told to run the other way if is seems like that. :-|
Hate to see you get scammed. I found this on the web and it can explain much better than I can.
Craigslist/ Paypal scam? - Yahoo! Answers
Scam. Run. Fast. No person, REAL LIVE PERSON WITH $$-no sale. That is my mantra, When we moved I have a lot of stuff to get rid of since we were downsizing. My kids (adults) were horrified that I ( a woman) had people coming to my house buying stuff. I was a little nervous at times, but my answer to all of the prospective buyers was the same. You are welcome to come look. I will, however, need the exact name on your drivers license ahead of time as I live in a gated community and you will be asked to produce your license to enter. I did, and it worked like a charm. I no longer live in that gated (AKA snobby) community, but you can bet I will always say that! It gets rid of LOTS of crappy people.
Absolutely a scam. Along with what others have said, note the second email you received and how he/she doesnt acknowledge that you are selling a motorcycle. Very general and could be used as a response to buy anything. Not to mention the horrendous grammar. Run and don't look back!
To whom it may concern,
I am actually the REAL Jahson Lufcy. Yes this is a scam and it definitely is not me, they are just using my identity and I dont know how to stop them. I was almost scammed by this person in 2009 and in the process this ******* got some of my ID information as this last email I got from the perp suggests:
Jim Lynch email@example.com
"Lol, do you think my real name is Jim Lynch or that's my address,
lol...well i got your id & address. I think it's time i switch my name
from Jim Lynch to Jahson M Lufcy. I'll continue my scamming, also i'll
be using your address as my fake address, i pray i get enough $$
scaming with your id...."
I don't know how to stop it!!!!!!!!!!!
I just googled my name with the word craigslist and it showed up in the search results.
