Day 17 Front Feet Pics!
So, as most of you know, I pulled my horse's front shoes 17 days ago. While he's not at full throttle, he's been walking around just fine in his paddock, trots well on pavement and concrete, and goes absolutely ballistic on grass, cantering, bucking, farting and having a ball. Guess he didn't read the book that TB's can't go barefoot. We've taken 2 rides in the woods and on grass with no issues taking care to stay in all the best footing. Today we decided it was time to clean up his feet a bit since we had only done a setup trim on day one. The trimmer was able to work out a few flares on the high foot and get it into better balance, took some toe off the long foot and is trying to get it to grow more heel. The shriveled heel bulbs are starting to un-contract a bit. Here's the pics. I'm not good at notations, so all the top pics are of the high foot and the bottoms are of the low foot.
Just in case genetics does play a role in this, I found a pic of his mother online and she is standing there barefoot. Go figure. Video coming soon of his gaits.
This is awesome! So glad he is coming through his transition period! What pretty feet he is going to have when its all done! I can't wait to see his gaits...I bet its such a huge difference! I am following your boy and think its awesome that you are doing this the right way. Barefoot or not, people need to be more aware of their horses feet! Its so nice to see a horse owner take the time to learn everything they can and then make a good decision based on facts. Keep it up! Go Puck!
Oh! And I went and snagged the previous heel shot of this horse...look how much more relaxed it has gotten in just 17 short days! http://www.horseforum.com/attachment...el-1-19-12.jpg
Here's side by side of the heel for total shock and awe. We are trying to do as much to be effective but as little as possible. At this point I think it's up to the hoof to grow out a bit and find it's way.
I'm still somewhat video posting challenged, so hopefully that link works. The pavement and grass are barefoot. The two sand rings are with front hoof boots. He had his choice of gaits. I don't ask anything of him since I want to see what he's comfortable doing on each surface. As you will see at the end, he's best on grass. It's nothing special. Just want a starting point of his current way of moving to compare later.
it says "video is private"
change it to unlisted and then we can watch it without it being public
How do I change it? I need a teenager!
Go to your video manager by clicking on your name on the top right side... then "video manager"
Then find the video and click the grey "edit" button below it
Scroll to the section after video thumbnails where it says "Privacy" click the one that says "unlisted"
After that, scroll up to the top of the page and click the "Save changes" blue button.
I think I did it. Thanks!
You're welcome, and yep! Works now!
Looking good! I'd probably address those quarter flares more is about all. Otherwise I'd probably just keep the walls maintained like that & keep on keeping on!
