what kind of half chap to buy

Hey, I wasn't sure if this was the right category for this type of question, but since I am riding English I guess this is as good a place as any.
I am looking at buying some half chaps and wanted to get a general opinion on them. Should I get suede, leather, what kind of styles or companies make good chaps. Things like that.
Also, I am thinking about buying a new helmet and wanted to know similar characteristics and styles that I should be looking at.
Thanks to whomever replies!

Best for what? Looks, comfort, durability....? For competing or schooling or riding out?

What colour/style boots do you wear?

So many questions..... so many options!

For a hat, go to a store and get one properly fitted. There are lots of different shaped hats and the one you like may not be the best one for your head shape!
I have suede "shires" half-chaps, had them for a few years now and they're still going  For competing though you'd want leather

Well I guess I could have been more specific! I'm looking for comfort and durability mainly. They will mostly be worn for riding out, but I might wear them for competing every once in a while.
Right now I have brown Saxon paddock boots so I'm guessing brown chaps might be the way to go?

I think anything ariats are the best!! Competitively priced, comfy and durable.
Thats what I have.

With my experience leather with a suede inner panel is the best, I also prefer Ariat :)

I like my Dublin Easy Care half chaps. I got them for like thirty bucks and they are going on three years now with no rips or tears. Best part is, you can put them in the washer!

Buy the best you can afford. It does make a difference.

I have Tredstep suede half chaps. They're the only brand I could find that would fit my short legs and wide calves.

I love my Grand Prix suede chaps....they fit my long legs. Also like Tred Step chaps.
