Finally a good day! Woot woot!
Today was finally a high point of the training of the Mule (Red) and my 4-H horse (Duke). I worked with Red first. When I got on him it didn't feel the same for some reason, and it was just way different. Then i noticed it was because he was rounding his back A LOT! I was happy that something good has FINALLY happened!

We started training him way back in March and it seems like we've been doing the same thing for months.... walk, trot, stop, turn around, flex your head...... I still haven't cantered on him and I'm doing speed events on him in the fair in two weeks!!!! yikes! So it seems like We're getting nowhere and it's taking forever, and I'm bored out of my mind of the basics and i know he is too... but I have to admit he's the lightest thing I've ever ridden

I can stop him and back him with out even touching the reins, but my trainer gets into a battle of brawn stopping and backing him... Not quite sure how that works, but oh well... I've also been teaching him how to be soft flexing laterally and vertically.... but I still think it's very important for me to be able to canter on him at the least....

anyway, moving on to Duke... I rode him at the arena in town w/ two other people... haha, I learned how to put on spurs from ontop of the horse... Let's just say that had to be fun to watch  For those of you who hate spurs I have this to say: I don't like them either, but the reins were too short and i didn't have a crop and he was NOT respecting my leg... and i know how to use spurs and they are about the mildest things ever, actually they are youth spurs....

sorry, sidetracking.... He responded really really well, and I was told that my competition had better look out, haha...

Ok, i'm done... sorry that was kinda long and if I totally screwed up on grammar and other conventions, that's my week point

Nice to hear a success story. Sounds like you're doing very well, but also sounds like your trainer's not the best thing since sliced bread!

Glad to hear that things are working out!

I find when training horses it always feels like the same thing, feels like it's taking forever and not getting anywhere. But think about the very first day you worked with him, that is what I do.
