Guests who bring dogs to your house.
My husband and I live in the country with 60 acres. My husband is a vet and we have a whole lot of animals, all but our hunting dog are strays or animals that hubby didnít want to put to sleep or were given to us, for whatever reason I do not know.
At last count 5 dogs, 5 cats, 3 horses, and 6 chickens.
I am so frustrated with friends bringing their dogs over when visiting. Every party or get together some or all friends bring their dogs. Most of the friends live in subdivisions and their dogs donít get to run much. I have told friends bring your dogs out when no party is going on, but they bring them all the time. Kid you not; I had a sit down catered dinner for my 50th b-day and 4 dogs came and ate with us. I was so furious I cannot tell you.
And the dogs that come donít even run around they want to be with their owner in the house. I do not want more animals in my house.
Today we are having a maple syrup boil with lots of guests and my friend calls and says she and the dogs are on the way over, I give up.
Any other country folks have this problem?
Don't have the problem but I would explain to them that you do not want them to bring their pets without first confirming it with you, not when they are on their way. It is your home your rules.
OMG! Out first litter of puppies, a family friend took one of them. That was over 2 years ago, and he brings her out. Labs, they need room to run. We have 3 of them, the mom, a brother from that litter and another male that isn't related. This guy, is very lazy, doesn't train his dog, takes her on walks around his neighborhood occasionally and used to bring her over 4+ times a WEEK to let her "run off energy"
We have 10 acres. Our dogs a great, no issues with them. This dog comes over and she runs ALL over our house. Upstairs, downstairs, darting around the living room all over the furniture!
She still isn't totally potty-broke. He lets her pee and poop is his house and when she comes over, she thinks it's okay. She would pee/poop in our horse until she was over a year old. Our dogs don't do that in our horse, why do we want SOMEONE ELSE'S DOG DOING IT. Once, she went upstairs into my room and took a BIG S**T in the middle of my floor. I was pissed!
I was eating dinner one night and she launched herself onto my plate and knocked my food all over. I was pissed.
She scratches our doors up. Jumps all over them. Like I said, none of my dogs do any of this. If they want inside or outside, they bark, but they NEVER scratch. My dog George patiently waits outside for as long as I forget about him. LoL. He just sits down and stares at the door or lies down.
We recently spent over 6 grand remodeling our house, new front door, closed off a room so this dog couldn't run around. New carpet. We warned this guy that if she scratches our new door or goes to the bathroom in our house, she'll be a dead dog.
She's gotten better, but he doesn't really bring her out anymore. I think he finally got the hint that we don't like it when she comes out. She's not a well behaved dog at all. She needs training, she needs discipline, and she needs someone that'll make her listen. Because she doesn't. She's a blonde. Literally.
We went to Florida for a week. This guy was the only guy we could have out to check on horses for us. MISTAKE. He'd put her in the hottub room and watch TV. I walked into the hottub room when we got home, there were pee ALL over the place. We have a doggy door going outside from that room. Did she go outside? NOPE. There were over 10 different pee spots. Oh, and by the front door, we have a window ledge on the outside. Apparently she crapped in the house too. Because I found a poop pile wrapped in a paper towel on the ledge.
Do these people KNOW how you feel about it? I can't imagine they would keep doing it if they did. Perhaps you just need to more clear and/or specific about the times it's ok and not.
Taffy nothing gets me going more than other people bringing dogs to my house! They are all warned, my dogs are not social, they are guard dogs. They are impeciably trained, it's the other dogs and their training that I'm worried about.
In october we have a big event and our good friend always comes out to stay with us and help. Well, his new wife who is a complete moron insisted on bringing her four month old Yorkie puppy. I was so mad, they too told us they were bringing it when they were already on their way! He knows dogs are not allowed here, knows our dogs weigh over 100lbs each, two are Dogote's and while being excellent dogs they are UBER protective, and he knew how busy we were going to be to have to worry about them eating her puppy. Which looked like a tiny rat, their favorite game. So the idiots kept the puppy in our daughters room. EVEN THOUGH they brought a kennel cage they BUILT A PEN out of our DAUGHTERS TOYS and allowed the rat dog to poop and pee all over the hardwood floors instead of taking it outside! We had the dogs kenneled up so it would have been safe! I was so mad I could SPIT! My husband had to keep me quite or else I would have lost it!
Make sure you just tell everyone that their dogs are not welcome and if I were you I would pen the unwelcomed visitors up until they left. I'm sure they wouldn't be brought back. Most of our friends have "city" dogs that they looovveeee to bring out to run in the country, but they have been warned that they aren't welcome here. I have chickens, horses, and used to have goats too and I know how stressful strange dogs are if they aren't used to livestock.
Yes, and it's so irritating...I hate when someone thinks it's okay to bring their dog over that's not used to horses, or even seen a horse...Then they think it's funny when their dog starts chasing my horses..Okay, we'll see how funny you think it is when my horse crushes your dogs face or tramples him. We have three dogs and they know that they know better than to even think about messing with the horses. Even my Pitbull doesn't bother any of our other animals and she'll sit under my mare's feed bowl and hope she drops a few pellets..Now, my horses know my dogs and my dogs know that they will have hell to pay if they chase the horses.. Clearly some people just don't respect other's rules and they other animals..
I'm not reading all the posts yet, but thanks for replying. I just came inside for more supplies ie Beer. Impossible to do a syrup boil without Budweiser. Need to get back to the fire and keep dogs away.
We all just came in for lunch, and friend’s dogs were under the table and they were feeding them scraps from their plates. My dogs who were laying down and behaving were not happy.
I knew I couldn't be the only rural property owner that had "Friends with Dogs".
My friend that brought the dog out, her husband left her a few years back and was needless to say having a rough time, so she could come over and stay a night with me I said go ahead and bring the dog with you, well it never has stopped. She is now back with her husband but still brings the dog.
And this is what kills me, I am her built in dog babysitter, Every time she goes out of town she assumes I will take care of her obnoxious dog. She is going to Europe this September and she wanted to know when I was going to Michigan so she could plan her trip so we could babysit her dog for TWO WEEKS!! And yes it does poop in the house at least once every time it is here. It is nuts because it never gets to run.
Wow, you're a better person with it than I am..I can get down right rude when it comes to the well being of my animals..If the friend's dog is running around like an idiot it can get tied somewhere with food and water..What you said is not acceptable IMO. And it's not right for their dog to not be able to run around and actually be a dog..
Sounds to me that your friends are doing this because they assume you are ok with it. I would assume that to, as several people are bringing their dogs and you are not saying anything about it.
No dogs come to my house, and if someone arrived with their dog, they would be asked to take mutley home. I have a dog who is not dog friendly, and I don't want unknown dogs around my kids.
It's your house, lay down the law.
