Keeping a steady weight on a horse
So I have posted before about my horse being super thin, I have solved this problem! I bulked up his feed, adding beet pulp & canola oil, as well as giving him an extra scoop of oats.

So now my question is: how do I find that perfect mix & amount of feed where he'll stop gaining weight, and just stay at a steady? He's still slightly thin, and if he does get kind of pudgy it's not that big of a deal because I'll work it off in the Spring. But I just don't know how to get him to stop gaining weight once he's where I want him.

Any help would be great, thank you!

Lots of tweaking. Adding calories when the horse is in more work, mostly. It will take a while to find the right "mix" and this will change as he works more or less, and when the weather changes.
Also keep in mind that as he gains body mass, he is burning more calories to move around. It is likely, for this reason that you will not have to reduce much to maintain the new, larger body mass.

Good luck!

Exactly as Anebel said, you'll be adding and removing feed all through his life.
There is no erfect balance that will keep him in peak condition constantly. In colder weather he may start droppng weight, so you need to add some more hay, then he might get too fat, so you can drop how much you feed gradually until he is a good weight, and stick to that until his condition changes again.

Try feeding a yearling that is growing like a weed - one day he is skinny and gangly, so I up his feed, and a few days later he is too fat again. Certainly keeps one on their toes!
