How to grow a mane???
Ok...years ago when my gelding belonged to my older sister, she shaved his mane off when she got him at age 2 due to some bad issues involving lice, ticks, ect. He is now 14, with me, and still has a mo hawk.

Sister says she never cut it since she shaved it and this is all he has grown since then. He gets Safe Choice feed, free choice grass hay, salt block, and an occasional treat. He is healthy and UTD on everything. His tail grows nicely and is full, beautiful, and long (when I don't trim it up.)

Does anyone have any idea what I could possibly do to help him grow a mane or any idea why it would be like this?

Picture is from before he lost weight...but still sports the mo hawk.

I think you can use mtg. That grows manes back.

I do too. It has been his trade mark for a while now. I was just curious if it was normal, what could cause it, or how to grow it back if I decided to.

Thank you everyone for the great suggestions. :-)

I would say, that if it's been twelve years since it was shaved, then there's nothing to get it to grow more at this point.

He has the neck for a mohawk, it's very cute on him.
I wouldn't bother trying to grow it out. If it was going to grow out more, then it definitely would have by now. Some horses just don't grow manes or tails past a certain length.
