How to "fulfill" the trot..?(I ride Western)

Since winter time my horses haven't been worked enough, but now I am ready to start my competiting in a few months and my horses need to be ready. My mare has a bit of an issue with the trot.. She will go into nice and slow, and then go faster, and then walk. She feels very choppy, but when she is worked(I usually work her except so much has gone on recenty) she is absolutely PERFECT! NO JOKE! I am just trying to find a way to make her stay at a constant trot and really reach into her jog.. And no there are no health issues. Any ideas? Thanks!

squeeze on her frame with your legs, not feet, legs, and keep her squeezed up into a trot.control the speed with slightly holding her back, but not enough to make her walk.you have to teach her to drive forward without getting fast.
