Today I started my official lease on a qh named Sweetie in her early 20s. She was a western horse and did mostly barrels. The only problem was that she had not been ridden in about 2 years xD

So I got her tacked up (there is no cross ties or area its just a little family farm) and out onto the flat field. As you will see in the pics, the 'arena' is right next to the pasture and barn. Sweetie was VERY barn sour and would not go more than 10 feet away from her family. So after a bit of 'arguing' we worked it out. She kept tossing her head up and turning and being naughty. We would go a little farther from the pasture each time, then i'd let her go back. After a couple spins and bolts I finally got her to go fully around the area, and stop at the farthest corner and do circles, pivots, sidepasses and backups. She is really well trained, I barley had to ask for a pivot, she knows it all just needed a reminder. I tried trotting on her really quick and it felt weird... very floaty. So, before I bore you anymore, here are some pictures. Please don't criticize my riding my mom took the pics right when I got on. I also started using two hands:

Well congratulations on your new horse! :) How absolutely wonderful!

She's a good looking horse and I bet y'all are at the beginning of a great relationship...

I know what you mean about bringing her back from her "extended vacation"... ;-) When I got the Quarter horse I have now, he had been a pasture ornament for 6 months and had only been brought up to the barn a couple of hours before I got there. Frequently during our first ride in the arena, he would call to his pasture buddies (who were lined up at the fence next to the arena, laughing at him!). He left all of that behind very rapidly though as time went by and I bet the same will happen for you as well. Her training will come through....

There's just nothing like being with her, is there? :)

Hope you have a great next ride....
