How long will the roundbale last?

i have 3 horses

15 year old 16 hand tb gelding
10 year old 17 hand tb gelding
1 1/2 year old 14 hand walker filly.

Looking at buying a 1000lb roundbale and was wondering about how long it should last?

All my horses are fed there full ration of grain and the two thoroughbreds are fed alfalfa twice daily.

they will have access to it 24/7 (the tbs will be pulled away twice daily for 4 hours total to eat there alfalfa.

A week if you're lucky, maybe 5 days or less. Depends what kind of hogs you have at that hay trough.

lol they are not to bad. They actually take quite a few breaks for a hour or two. They dont sit there and eat eat eat all day long.

My two hayburners go through a 800 lb round in a week. They take breaks because I set the thing a mile from the water trough otherwise it would be devoured in 4 days. Anyways, put it out and report back how long it lasts. I don't use round bales anymore unless I am going away so it's less work for my son who usually takes care of things. Whenever I get back from holidays, my horses are fat arse slugs.

We had a 900lb round bail and it lasted our 2 horses 14 days. Mine a quarter pony (14hh) and my friends a morgan quarter X (14.2hh)

I also pass by these people houses who always have round bails our for there 3 horses and a mule ( ;D ) and it seems to last them about 7ish days

hope that helps!

If you want more time just buy a bigger bail hahaha

Has anyone ever used a round bale for one horse? How long do they normally last for out in the pasture and I would square bales in the barn.

I am jealous of your conservative eaters. I might have to invest in a slow roundbale net thingy. One hog of mine might eat it though. When the roundbale is put out, he sticks his head & doesn't come out for air until the thing is done. Glutton and fat.

It all depends on the appetite of your horses. My two will make a bale about that size last about a month, but they're very easy keepers.
