I have two x 15.2 HW Shire X, Banjo and Dolly they are together 24/7 and in the main get on well, but then it comes to feeding or when I'm about Dolly always forces Banjo away, by ears back and if he does not move, then she will stamp her back feet and if still no response she will chase him and try to kick out at him, Banjo always moves away and comes back when she is happier.
Is there anyway of stopping this or is it just natural. I got Dolly as a companion for Banjo as he was used to company, but I dont want things to get any worse.
When the fields at home have dried up we want to got out hacking together thats me and my OH, who is a novice rider, and I dont want there to be any problems, I will be riding Dolly and OH Banjo.
Does anyone have any advice and should we school them together before hacking out.
ok i think this mite be, dominants, it seems to be Dolly is just showing whos boss, and Banjo is giving into it. For example, i have 2 dogs, Rosie and Shelby, Shelby is always done eating first, when she is done she goes over to rosie and snaps at her so she can get rosies food, and rosie gives in. So i had to fix my problem by feeding them far away from eacother with their backs turnedto eachother, that way they cant see eachother. And their fine now. For your horses imo i suggest you should seperate them when feeding and when one is dne before the other, go over to the one who is done and pet him and praise him, in other words, distract him while the other is still eating, and when their both done praise them, they'll be fine.
-chelsea- Good Luck
When I have mine together I tie my mare when I feed them if not she does the same thing. They both know where to go stand a wait when they see me coming with their feed so Ijust leave an old lead rope tied where my mare eats.
o im sorry if i think of something else ill let you kno
Thanks horse love
I have fed them apart and when dolly has finished went to her and fussed her and praised her and then she would walk off into field.
After a couple of days of that she now just eats her food and then walks off into the field.
So things are much better.
Now trying to work on the attention, she will not let Banjo come up to me if she is with me.
Thanks to everyone for their advice, any more tips on the attention things would be grateful.
