Did someone order snow? (This happens daily, I think these two bicker a lot and settle bets that way ) http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/r.../DSCF57433.jpg http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/r.../DSCF57322.jpg |
So your stallion is out with your mares every day? One due to foal this spring, and the other....? Just want to make sure I have it right. |
very nice pictures glade I did not get that snow |
Everyone looks like they are having a great time! |
Beautiful shots! Makes me feel slightly cooler here in Aus, where I am currently sweltering away under the aircon, with a raging temperature feeling like death warmed up... ick! |
Love the pics, especially your big red girl! |
Thank-you! I really wish we didn't get this snow either  I'll gladly send some away. We've had a fantastic warm and nearly snow free winter. It would decide to dump snow nearing spring when the horses are half shed out.... Of course, they were enjoying themselves. So your stallion is out with your mares every day? One due to foal this spring, and the other....? Just want to make sure I have it right. It never fails, someone always assumes that I haven't had the sex talk. Yes, my stallion lives with his mares and you can do the math. |
Wow we didn't get any snow down here in Tennessee! At least, where I live. Would've been nice to get out of school for a while. :P Anyway, everyone looks super happy, great pics! |
I love your pics! Looks like they are having a great time! And personally i think having your stallion out with his mares is the best natural way to do it...as long as you are aware that babies will be on the way..and you obveously do...that's how I would do it.I think as long as it's controlled, and you don't have like 20 mares out with him, then what's the problem? Stallions in the wild breed like this all the time. They are not brought out to cover a mare and then taken away from her. That's not natural. Can't wait to see pics of the baby when it gets here!! |
Kayty, I am so heat intolerant that I might just prefer the snow! Until it melts, floods my barn and muddies up the pastures. Anna, I would not own a stallion if we had to keep him stalled and isolated. We have always had him live with his mare(s) and babies. Unless he is not suppose to be breeding anyone that year. He is so used to having a job when the halter is ON that he doesn't think its breeding time and doesn't even ask. He shares a fence line with mares and geldings on one side and the other stallion on the other. Both stallions are very sweet boys, people frequently have to "check" to believe they are not geldings. This stallion doesn't like to breed strange mares, he seems to prefer to wine, dine and court them first. He declined breeding my Percheron mare all together initially! She went in heat three days after moving in to his pasture and he just "courted" until her next heat cycle a month later. He is very modest and gentlemanly. I am sure that is due to his herd living arrangement. And knowing my horses as well as I do its just as easy to record pasture breeding dates as hand breeding. |
