Rain Rot or something else

My older horse (28ish) has gotten something wrong with him that is causing his hair to fall out on his legs. I am not sure what this is.

When the vet was out he said it was old wounds.....but.....when he was out it was far less bad looking. It did look like it could have been a couple old wounds. Since, it has gotten much worse and now on all four legs. Its starting to go up his legs and I am wondering what I can do about it.

Just thought I would run it by the fine people here and see what you thought.

This has gotten worse over the last month. I have not had the vet back out yet but will if need be.

As far as I've experienced, rain rot is bumpy/clumpy..and the horse I dealed with was not losing hair. It obviously varies from horse to horse but it's hard to tell just from pictures. To me, it looks like it but I'm not exactly sure.

It def looks like some sort of fungus. Use MTG. It works great on all kinds of funguses.

What is MTG? I will try to pick some up.

Thanks for the speedy replies.

Its a oil based product with sulfur. It has cleared up any fungus my horses get with in just a couple days. You can get it at most feed stores. And tractor supplies

Thanks. Do you think the hair will grow back or will this be damaged for the rest of his life? I know you cant say for sure but was just wondering if their hair grows back easily from this type of thing.

Yes I agree with that! We use MTG on rain rot especially, so it should clear it up if it's either fungus or rain rot..

My suggestion would be if the MTG doesn't seem to be helping in a day or two get the vet out, you don't want this to keep spreading, and although unlikely given the horses age, it could be autoimmune.

MOST rain rot occurs on the back, butt, and top part of the neck. And it's pretty greasy and oozy looking. But that's a LOT of hair loss.

I believe it will. It acually is great for hair growth too.

Just and update.

Man....that MTG is good stuff. I bought some and applied it. The very next day I could already tell a difference and the hair started growing back. I dont have any new pics yet but its working wonders.

Thanks for directing me to it.
