So all you experts: What is this?
So I consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable in colors, genetics, and so forth. I find it all very interesting. But, we have a little mare at school who I am simply dumb-founded with. She's a palomino true and true - but had a big brown spot on her face and her tail is two-toned with darker brown (along with her base light palomino). Other than that, no other markings. A reg. AQHA. Any suggestions on what it is/what it is called?
It almost looks like a bloody-shoulder marking that you find on greys - except those are just their natural base color that hasn't greyed out. So, obviously the same concept doesn't apply since palomino isn't they same type of gradual de-pigmentation as greys. Then it also reminds me of bend-or spots you find on chestnuts (which could be a possibility, since palominos are delusions of the red base) but I've never heard/seen one so big.
I'm just really curious - so any ideas are welcome! :D
A concentration of sooty in one area. Not usual but not unheard of either.
