Previously Rescued Horse Stolen Back By Previous Owner **PICS**

As some of you know Molly was a good 250lbs - 300lbs under weight when I got her, well Ellie was a body score of one (pictures below of both horses before/after). I was going to buy her as well as Molly, but So-and-so said she was sold. Fast forward six months to last week when I got a message on my Facebook from a woman asking about my mare, Molly, and if I had gotten her from So-and-so. I responded that I had, and asked how she knew my horse. She quickly responded telling me that she had gotten her mare, Ellie, from So-and-so the same time I had. I was over joyed when I went on the woman's Facebook page and saw a fat well taken care of horse. About an hour after the woman uploaded pictures of when she first got Ellie, and being friends with So-and-so she saw the pictures got uploaded. So-and-so was outraged that the woman uploaded pictures of Ellie when she got off the trailer, and that she'd said she looked 100x times better now than when she first got her (same thing happened with me and So-and-so). So-and-so and the woman had some words, which ended in So-and-so threatening to repo the horse, and the woman said if she did she'd sue until the end and that she'd also go to court about the animal abuse. After that the woman didn't hear back from her, and that was four days ago. Today when the woman came home after leaving she found her horses loose on her property with the gate wide open, and no Ellie. So-and-so came, and stole Ellie back. How are we sure? Her profile picture on Facebook is of her kissing Ellie on the trailer. IMO that was an ignorant, ballsy move on her part.

Now my question is what can the woman do to get Ellie back? She's called the cops, and they are currently trying to contact her with no luck. She paid $50 when she picked Ellie up, and hasn't paid anymore on Ellie since owning her; does the woman have a chance in court to get Ellie back because of So-and-so's abusive past? We both called on her when we first bought the mares with no luck of any justice. Any suggestions on what to do or anything besides sit and wait?

It's not okay for someone to just "repo" a horse without reason. She got paid, and pictures posted to Facebook are not grounds to "repo" a horse. I believe that, in this instance, it's best to keep with the police and get the horse back. Have the police go out to her house, if at all possible. This is horse theft – we don't just sit around and "try to contact" people!

That's horrible!! can not believe someone would do that. good on you to for saving to poor things. I hope the black horse stays safe and well fed until the rightful owner gets her back. good luck!

She only got $50, when she wanted $500 and was told she was going to get the rest later; that doesn't affect anything?

The woman lives in New Hampshire, and So-and-so lives in Maine. She contacted New Hampshire state police; I don't know if she has contacted Maine state police, because she hasn't been again since telling me about this. I know I don't understand why her state police aren't taking it more seriously.

I will let you guys know what I hear!

Thank you.
The bay horse is Ellie, that horse that was stolen back. Molly, my mare, is the black.

Was the owner been paying her on a consistent basis? How long ago did she get the $50? Has she gotten any more payments?

Gah, this infuriates me! Some people...!!!!

I would stop posting on the net about it and let the police do their job. Being as it now crosses state lines this is not going to be a quickly done deal...

Was there paperwork that could prove ownership?

Did she have some sort of contract? If she has only paid $50 of the $500 she owed, and hasn't paid anything else, sounds to me like she owed another $450 and never paid it?

Why do people "friend" people on facebook that they don't really know in the first place? I see so many stories of this biting them in the @ss!

From what I understand she only paid the $50 when she picked up Ellie, and didn't pay anymore because she didn't know if she was going to make it then had to pay for vet bills, and all that good stuff, and just didn't have the money yet to finish paying for her.

So-and-so got the $50 six months ago when the woman picked Ellie up.

No idea, but I don't think so. She might have given her a check though, but doubtful.

Read above.

She friended her on Facebook so she could keep in contact to finish paying. She knew the girl when she added her.
