Why doesn't water bottle freeze when undisturbed?

That is honestly the weirdest thing I have seen before... And, I have NO
clue on why on earth that bottle would do that... I am simply going to guess, although I am no physic, that it might have something to do with the altitude, and the temperature. Although, I don't know why on earth that would affect anything, but still... Most likely though, the temperature, as if its cold enough to freeze water instantly, before your eyes, it MUST have something to do with the water not freezing when undisturbed... But, as I said, I am not a physic, and am pretty worthless.

Could possibly have something to do with the pressure within the bottle.
But, I'm no physicist.

Did you notice that on top of turning it upside down, he compressed the bottle with his holding hand. This would change the pressure inside, perhaps. I think this has something to do with the fairly instant crystalization of the water molecules.

I asked my dad (who's an engineer) because that video freaked me out, haha. He says (and I got confused so this is.... a very loose translation) there needs to be a 'dust' or something to start the crystallization. With bottled water there is no ' dust'. He thought they would have had to open the water bottle to get it frozen, so he doesn't understand how it froze just turning it upside down but just another thought.

Strange... I'd have liked to have been able to figure this one out, but in physics right now were doing more the mechanical side, so I have no clue! I'll see if I can't find something on Google... or would that be cheating? :wink:

Interesting! Awhile back I left a bottle of Mt. Dew in the barn unopened and it didn't freeze, my hubby's explanation was "Well, that *stuff* looks & tastes like antifreeze...maybe it is." :lol:

However! If you try exactly same experiment with glass bottle, the water will freeze, expand, and break the bottle (been there done that). So I'm still not convinced by the explanations.
BTW, it's not a distilled water (based on bottle), it's a spring water that is very far from being distilled. Unless they opened and changed it.
