I am a BAD over analyzer!
Help! I started riding again last May after not doing any real riding since high school. I am 42-so that gives you an idea of my "time off". I have been working under a great Dressage trainer since I started, and purchased my first horse last July, a Paint that had been used as a lesson horse at one time, and then as a trail horse, but had never done Dressage. I realize I took that hard way in, as I can see how amazing my progress would have been had I gotten a seasoned Dressage school master, but I never take the easy way! Oh-and the horse is quite talented-it is me that is the issue!
We are truly making steady progress if I look back, but sometimes I fear I am frustrating my trainer as I just over-analyze everything. I need to just shut-up, do what she is saying, and "go for it" so to speak. And when I analyze-I seem to have to stop and get myself together, which is not teaching the horse any good tricks. Any advice my from my wise, been through that, horse forum friends?

A young lady like you just needs to enjoy the moment.

The way I figure it, if you're paying someone for lessons, then you might as well do it their way, or, why bother taking the lessons?

Not that it matters, but are you taking the lessons because you intend to compete?

Maybe just relax and have fun with your horse and your trainer.

Analyzing isnt always a bad thing. Yes you need to do as your instructor says but i see no harm in trying to understand why. Thats what makes a good rider.
