Quater horse to pick up his feet when jumping

I ride a 14.3hh 9y/o QH gelding. Of course he does this because he's a quater horse but he seems to kick almost 3 out of 5 jumps. Any tips on getting him to lift his legs a bit higher?

Being a Quarter Horse has nothing to do with it. How much training and preparation has he had? How high are your jumps? How good a rider are you?

I've had about 10 years solid experience. He can jump at least 90cm.

He jumps this height when free jumping or with a person? If he not tucking or is he kicking out behind? 2 different issues. You also do not say if your experience is with jumping or another discipline? Do you have an instructor to make sure your position is correct so as not to put the horse off balance?

It is really hard to help you with so little information. Maybe pictures? And just FYI-there are plenty of QH's who jump just fine, so I doubt the issue is the horse. It may be training, but if he jumps 90 cm, I am thinking the issue is the rider or training or a combination of those 2.

If you are using plastic pipe they don't care if they hit it. Are you giving him a sight line on the ground. He may not have developed his balance with your weight. Free jumping is one thing, packing a rider changes his balance.
