What a year this will be....
I went to the annual team meeting last night.
The drill team has a big year planned, including two competitions.
Countless rodeos and some parades.
Honestly, I don't like riding in parades at all, but it is a necessary evil...
I am super excited to ride the rodeos...fun, fun , fun.
I am nervous about the competitions...it's not like competing as an individual.
If I mess up, or Patsy, we could cost our team mates a good score...
Everyone is working so hard, I would not forgive myself if I messed up the
You will do fine. :) We believe in you and Patsy. Just practice hard and it will pay off. :)

Thanks Miss colors....I need a little encouragement right now is all...
new horse, old woman....LOL
She is doing well, still need to work on rate and headset...
What drill team are you on? And for how long?
The past 5+ years I was on the Freedom Riders Equestrian Drill team in Tuttle, OK. I had to quit this year however so I could get more serious about showing:'(
Our drills were/are East Coast style (which are more advanced precision maneuvers, less repetition but a little slower) mixed with the "rodeo" style (fast and sparkly!!! lol). Last year, I rode my 21 year old mare and my 4 year old filly. It's a great way to keep a horse in tip top shape!:)
I'm sure you will do fine, I have had serious accidents in the arena and yet still come out placing pretty good!:) I'd love to see videos of your team, I love watching other teams!!:)
The first picture is me and Sassy (4 yo) after a bad collision. We were doing inverted wedding rings (one circle is going one way and the other is going the other way, and you go through eachother in the center). One girl slowed down to get her spacing which is a HUGE no no. It caused the girl behind her to get scrunched up and I tried to fit in the hole between them. Kinda hurt, but everyone was okay so we kept on trucking.
The second picture is Rosie at the 2011 AQHA World Show. This was Rosie's 2nd to last drill performance, not because of her retiring or anything, but because of me no longer doing drill. It has kept her in amazing shape and I credit drill to her being so healthy at her age!
I rode off and on for the Top Hands since 2001.
Now I am riding for the Renegade Cowgirls, just starting this year!
Some of the Top Hands...
I have lots of drill experience, I am just rusty, old and have a new horse...LOL
Thanks for the encouragement.
The move you call wedding ring, the "hands" call suicide crack. And we had a wreck in London, ontario Canada doing that move....
My daughter is riding hippidrome here, its harder in parades, walking than galloping actually, Rosie and I are second back.
Rosebud and I...
I really don't like that manuever at all...scared the crap out of my horse lol
Neato!!:D Love ya'lls outfits!!!
Do you guys do trick riding also? There is a team in Texas that I know of that has a rider that stands during a loping company front. Pretty cool!:)
And ya'lls chaps are BEAUTIFUL!!! O.o
I do not hippidrome, because I have rheumatoid arthritis and it puts lots of stress on your ankles and knees.
But yes, we have some hippidrome riders, both the Top Hands and my new team, The Renegade Cowgirls.
Galloping is actually easier than walking, parades are particularly hard because stopping and starting.
I will update when I have some pictures of my new team...
Thanks. That was my favorite thing about riding on the Top Hands. The costumes are so patriotic.
I joined in 2001, I will never forget riding in parades after 911, crying so hard I couldn't see.
Such an honor to carry that flag!
