Horse usually picks up right lead...

Okay, another question from me, while I'm thinking of it.
My horse has a tendency to pick up his right lead, which is no problem when going to the right, but it takes me a few times to get the left lead going to the left. It's hard because a lot of the times if I didn't check I wouldn't notice because it doesn't feel very off. He has always been that way a little bit, but recently it has gotten more noticable, like it's pretty much certain that he'll pick up the right lead at a given time. Why might he be doing this? Am I not setting him up correctly? Could it be a medical/physical thing? It's funny because once he has the left lead he does better actually cantering to the left than to the right. Any ideas here?

You said in another thread that your seat in canter is not very secure. Often this is exaggerated in the upwards and downwards transitions. If you are gripping or losing balance into the canter, the horse will struggle to pick up the lead. Possibly you are more secure to the right, or the horse finds the right lead easier and can compensate for your unabalance.

Work first on your seat, then worry about the horse.

Actually, I'm much more comfortable on the left lead...
