Vaccination Season and VEE
I ordered my usual vaccines to give to my horses: Intervet Prestige V and West Nile. When I got them, I realized I was given Intervet Presitge V with VEE. This doesn't bother me too much, but I am wondering, is it new protocol to give VEE in the US? Usually, it was just Eastern and Western. I called my vet to ask, and he said if I was planning on going to Texas, I would probably want VEE, but otherwise, it's probably no big deal. However, I wonder. It would seem if they are adding VEE, there would be an increased risk this season, or the unusually warm winter has caused concern? Since I have not ever given the VEE, the vet said I'd need to do a booster in 4-6 weeks to get the full protection, if that was something I was inclined to do.
So, my question is, does anyone know if there's an increased risk of VEE in the US? Should I really go all out and buy another round of vaccines to booster VEE? I live in South Carolina, but I usually go north to ride, and I have never gone farther south than Savannah, GA with the horses, and I wasn't planning on it this year.
I wouldn't worry about it if it's not in your area. They may have shipped you the one with VEE because they were out of the one you ordered. Or it just may have been a mistake. Since I've always lived either in CA, AZ or OK and gone to TX frequently, I always do the full vaccination, VEE, EEE & WEE so don't know any different.
If VEE isnt a a problem where you live i wouldnt worry about a second booster if it is then yes do a second shot. I havent heard of VEE being in our area but then again iam in minnesota.
