Price of Hay
Just Wondering, what are the going rates for the following in your area, and how does that compare to what the prices were a year ago?
Grass Hay - $4.00 this year up from $2.75 last year
Alfalfa Hay - $16.00 this year up from $12.00 last year
Timothy Hay - $10.50 this year up from $8.50 last year
$2 up from $1.50
Good Orchard/fescue mix is going for $8/bale here this year.
Coastal or Bahaya(SP?) goes for $4.50-$5.00 during the summer and $7.50 during the winter.
That could change this year though. We're having a dry summer and if it keeps up, some growers might not get a 3rd cut.
Out here they vary from 4.00 to 6.50/bales. It really depends on the percentage of alfalfa, timothy and brome per crop and will vary depending on whether or not it's the first cut.
Hay prices are really getting up there in Southern Cal. I'm paying $16/100 lb. bale of bermuda. About the same for alfalfa. Orchard and timothy are around $24-26 a bale!!! Started using alfalfa pellets instead of hay.
In Florida T&A is $12.75/bale
Coastal $9.10/bale or $65- 75 round bale (for our cattle) Thank Goodness It has been raining so we are not purchasing cattle hay!!
I was going to start looking into a complete feed or hay pellets to compare prices.
Alfalfa/Grass mix - 18.75/bale
Alfalfa - 19/bale
Grass Timothy - 17/bale
i was paying $21(au) per bale for grass but where i get it now i pay $14
