TB MARE, loosing muscle tone, help!

My mare is a 4 year old OTTB. I bought her from Larry Jones, and had her in training until last december. I know that when you turn TBs out for the first time they are hit hard... they tend to get thin and everything. But she fractured her pelvis as a 2 year old, and i also dont know what type of suppliments he had her on, and her right pelvis/hip area has taken a drastic hit. she has almost no muscle tone at all... What can I do for her to get that back up and get her healthy? she is turned out with 3 other horses that run her around, and they are leaving within a week, so she will be alone from now on, and i lounge her at a trot for a small amount of time everyday to get her moving and trying to use that a little... but what else can I do for her?

Can you ride her? If you can, trotting circles, figure eights and a few serpentines help a lot! If you can't ride her, lounging and leading her is probably the best way to go. Good luck!
P.S. She is sooo pretty!!

Hi,

First off, I would not be working her, particularly on a lunge, as this is particularly hard on young joints. I would be calling in a/some good bodyworkers to see what may be done for her. It is common for racehorses to have sacro/hip probs, from being worked hard as babies & hopefully at age 4yo, those joints being still immature, it may be possible to correct(don't know, I'm no chiro or any such), but if not, they should at least be able to help & also tell you what exercises should/shouldn't be done.

I know a mare that broke her pelvis and that side of her hindquarters was always less muscled then the other side. She was lame so was never able to be worked after her accident. Maybe if you did some hill work with her that would help but i would not be lunging her to much to hard on a young horses joints. Iam not a big fan of lunging i use it only to get my horses cinch tight enough to ride.He hates if you crank up the cinch so i have to do it several diffrent times. He maybe does four circles to get that done.
