Pulled mane or natural?

I had pulled Dez' mane in the past for show, but it was so coarse and thick that it poofed up quite a bit regardless of thinning, so I grew it out natural.

His natural mane has quite a lot of white, so until I wash it for show (then it is gorgeous), it looks quite shabby. The only thing that I was able to do with it for show was put it in a tight braid along the crest, which came loose over the day.

To the point...:)
Tonight I was out visiting, and playing with his mane, and I noticed that his mane feels a much more normal thickness now. Should I take a chance and try pulling it short again so that it looks more appropriate for show...taking a chance that it will poof again? OR, should I leave it and continue to braid it for the tidier look?

Here is his mane now. (larger view of my avatar :) )

I would pull it and thin it if you feel it is thinner than it used to be, and then try taming it down with bands, gel or a neck rug.

I think that manes are "trained"...seems like the more you pull it the more it looks like it is supposed to and lays down. I would say it depends on the level of show you are doing...if the shows are smaller...I would leave it long because his mane is very pretty. But if they are bigger shows I would pull it.

I agree with hot red dun. I think dez's mane is beautiful natural. I wouldn't pull it unless I HAD to. He's so handsome! 8)

Don't pull it. Your horse has a gorgeous mane. The 2 mares I have I think will always be kept up with pulled manes but my guy I refuse to touch. His mane I'm letting grow and stay all perty:

Oooooooooo gorgous mane!

But if you decided to pull it to shorten and thin( as opposed to pulling it just to thin it) do you use hair gel junk to keep it managable when showing? Just make sure ya wash it out right afterward. :D
