Balding and Flaky Skin Problems
My mare typically sheds out quickly. Last spring she shed to wear she had very little hair.
This year it is worse. Not only is she shedding to the point of baldness her skin is either peeling or flaking off. She has always had flaky skin on her forhead but now it is all over her body.
What is this and how can I treat it?

Thank you,

Sounds as though she has un-naturally dry skin. What is the fat content of her diet?

My new mare has this exact same problem but it is from a poor diet/lack of care and grooming. She is shedding to where she has little hair in some places and one of her ears is completely bald.. Vet said to give her a good bath with a shampoo that has oatmeal in it nd scrub the daylights outta her with the curry.

I'm not certain of her fat content she take in but she is on a maitenance plan of about 1/2qt. of 12% feed per day.

Her skin doesn't seem dry but I could perhaps purchase a feed through supplemental for skin and hair health.

I'm considering adding tea tree oil into her fly spray as a topical treatment if it is something bacterial.

Any other suggestions? Or how to do an oatmeal bath?
